That Monday I had rolled up to Charlie's house a few minutes earlier.
It was now October, so it was getting colder out here in Denver.
I always had loved the month of October, the leaves start to change colours, and I also love Halloween, which was in a few weeks.
I saw Charlie wave to most likely her mom because I believe her dad leaves very early for work.
"Good morning sunshine." I said as she got into the car.
"Morning." She simply replied.
"How did you sleep." I had asked her.
She paused for a moment and then replied, "Pretty much like a baby, I had a dream.. But I don't really remember much of it." She said looking at me and smiling.
I nodded.
As I stopped at a red light a group of kids from our school walked next to our car.
"Eh, guitar freak found a boyfriend?" One of the guys yelled into the car.
"He's not my boyfriend asshole." She yelled back at him.
"Oh right you could never find a boyfriend, you'll probably still be a virgin when you're 50." They screamed.
I watched her roll up her window and a single tear roll down her cheek.
I immediately wiped it from her face.
I pulled over and got out of the car.
"You think you can talk to her like that?" I yelled back at the group of them.
"What are you going to do about it." One of them said walking closer to me.
I felt Charlie tugging on my arm.
"James." She wined.
"Please go back in the car." I said.
"No James." She said.
"Go back in the car Charlotte." I demanded with anger in my voice.
She let go of my arm and walked back to the car.
I walked back up to that guy.
"I'm not going to let you talk to her like that." I said.
He had punched me in the jaw.
I stumbled but I then threw a punch.
It connected with his face, and once he realized what I had just done, all three of them had walked over to me and started punching and kicking until I was on the ground.
"JAMES." I heard Charlie yell.
I saw her get out of the car and run towards where I was.
One of the guys ran over to her and grabbed her body.
She struggled to get out of his grip.
The more he touched her the more rage filled my body.
I saw her turn and punch him as best as she could and then he slapped her.
That crossed the line.
I was still on the floor so I grabbed one of the guys legs and twisted it so he fell to the ground.
I then got up and punched the last one who stumbled but didn't fall so I hit him again.
I then ran over (as best as I could) to Charlie and the guy that was grabbing her.
