Luke's POV
"Goodnight Luke," Becca yawns when we plop ourselves down on the bed.
"Goodnight love," I reply, closing my eyes and falling into slumber.
I wake up in the middle of the night, because Pete started bawling. Becca stirs but doesn't wake. It's around 12 o'clock, I walk down to Pete's room and see he is laying down again. He has the bear and it doesn't stink, so I don't know what he needs. I pick him up and pat his back, swaying side to side until he falls asleep again. Then, I carefully place him down in his crib again and trudge tiredly upstairs.
When I lay down again, Becca rolls over and lays her head on my chest, her arms tightly around my waist. I smile and fall asleep again.
At 10, I wake up, probably because I had to get up in the middle of the night. Either way, Becca isn't next to me and she isn't in the bathroom either.
I brush my teeth and run my hands over my hair any way, and walk downstairs. I smile when I pass Pete's room because Becca is sitting in the rocking chair with the half asleep baby cradled in her arms, and she is humming the tune of Love Don't Die by The Fray. She and I have become really interested in The Fray recently, listening to some of their whole albums at times. It's a weird song to hum to a baby but it's catchy and he can't hear anyway.
"Morning love," I say, standing in the doorway of our son's room. Becca looks up and smiles.
"Morning Luke," She says. Pete looks over to me and holds his arms out, I smile and pick him up, kiss his forehead, and cradle him like Becca was doing seconds ago.
Becca stands up and walks to the kitchen, I hear her get a glass of water or orange juice or whatever she usually drinks in the mornings. I sit Pete back down in his crib, putting the grey bear in front of him to play with.
I walk out to Becca, who's staring out the window with a glass of water in her hand. I kiss her hair and make myself a bowl of cereal.
It's 10:30 when I finish eating. I look over at Becca and smile.
"What are you smiling at me for?" She asks, noticing my grin.
"Because I like to," I respond. Becca laughs and playfully rolls her eyes. "Can I put on some music?" She nods so I run up to our room and grab my phone. I click on Spotify, then The Fray's self titled album. The first song that plays is Never Say Never, but I pause it to wait until I am in the kitchen. When I get there I place my phone in the center of the table and hit play.
I feel like this song should be called "Don't Let Me Go" instead of "Never Say Never", it just makes more sense with the lyrics. Anyway, I sit silently as The Fray plays on shuffle. I look out the window the entire time, mainly at the baby blue sky and the view we get of the town below.
I hadn't realized that Becca switched the singer to Sam Smith, which I am totally fine with, or the fact that it's been 2 hours since I turned on the music. It's 12:30 so I walk upstairs and grab clothes to get dressed into. I pick out a pair of jeans and a graphic t-shirt. As soon as I pull them on, I exit the bedroom and go into the lounge. Becca is sitting on the couch, watching the news. They are reporting a missing little boy named Olivier Alphonse, he has blonde hair and looks a bit like my boss. Oh, wait. Fleur was crying at the end of my work hours, just after she hung up a phone call. I guess her son is missing then.
"Isn't that Fleur's last name?" Bec asks. I nod slowly, frowning. I turn off the TV and lean against the back of the couch. Becca frowns as well but shakes the thought out of her mind.
"I, uh, I'm gonna get a shower," Becca says. I nod and watch as she runs upstairs, lips trembling and her arms behind her back.
"Bec!" I say and follow her up. She shuts the bathroom door before I can get to it and she locks it. "Becca what's the matter? Did I do something?"
