Enzo
Having spent time with Everly and getting to know her, I developed feelings for her. The only thing was, I didn't think she felt the same. To her, I'm probably the guy that just saved her. I blocked out what I was feeling. I mean, maybe it was for the best.
I was over at my grandparent's house, teaching her sign language as I usually did. Since they were still trying to locate her mom, she was again staying with them. I don't think they mind. Honestly, I think they enjoyed it when someone stays with them.
She had picked up more than time went on, and soon she would be ready to tell the class what she had learned. So would I.
We finished our lesson, and we're joking around. Damn, Everly looked beautiful when she laughed. Her face lit up when she smiled. Snap out of it, Enzo. She will never go for a guy like you.
"What?" She asked me.
"It's nothing. I was thinking about things," I signed as I shook my head.
"Tell me, Enzo," she signed as I kept avoiding it. "Come on," she kept pestering me as I kept trying to deny how I was feeling. "Come on. Tell me," she begged me.
The more I denied it, the more I couldn't until I finally did the one thing I didn't expect to. I leaned in and kissed Everly, taking us both by surprise.
Her lips were so soft, and I wasn't expecting her to kiss me back, but she did. She placed her hand around the back of my neck as she moved the other to my waist. I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her closer.
Then she heard someone clear their throat. We quickly separated and saw Grandpa standing there, looking at us. I think I turned three shades of red.
"Having fun, you two, and when does kissing pertain to sign language?" Grandpa asked us.
"Well, it is the universal language," I answered as Everly took a pillow and hid her face.
"Uh-huh," he said.
Yeah, probably not my best move to kiss her at my grandparent's house.
The next day, I was at my locker getting my stuff when all I could think about was that kiss. I didn't know what it meant. I mean, I like Everly, but maybe she got caught up at the moment.
Then I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned and saw Everly standing there.
"So about that kiss," she signed.
Shit, I knew it. Everly probably just got caught up at the moment. That was stupid to do it. How the hell was I going to get out of this and save face?
"What about it?" I asked, feigning confusion.
"We didn't talk about it. You know, with you running out of there so quick and all," Everly giggled. Yeah, I left quickly after my grandpa saw us. I mean, it was my first kiss and all.
"I guess," I said before she cut me off with her lips.
Okay, I wasn't expecting that, but who am I to say no? I reached up and touched her face as we kept kissing. Damn, her lips were so soft, and they tasted like cherries.
As our kiss deepened, people were stopping and watching. I didn't care. This kiss was terrific.
Then I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. We broke from our kiss only to see Cade and Julian looking me. They waved and smirked. Damn it.
I sighed.
"So, hot lips, do you always make out in front of the whole school?" Cade asked me as I looked around to find everyone staring. Even better, first, it's Grandpa, now this.
Cade and Julian snickered as I sighed. Why was I always getting myself into these situations?
I looked at Cade. "You must have felt better, although you're still a doof."
"Yeah, but you're a bigger doof, and I'm okay. Not as sore, but let me tell you. I am so glad to be out of the house. I swear if my dad brings me one more balloon, teddy bear, or anything, I will scream," he said with frustration.
"Aww, you're his little man," Julian mocked. I laughed, and it came out as a squeak.
"Still not use to hearing a sound from you," Cade said as I shrugged. He turned to Julian. "How are things going? I need to get caught up, considering I've been in isolation hell."
"They're okay. Still not talking and still not comfortable being alone with someone," Julian told us.
"You know you have to talk," he told him.
"Yeah, but not today, and tomorrow isn't looking better," he countered.
"Uncle Luke won't push you. He's good about that," I said to him.
"I know, but it's nerve-wracking sitting in this office. I refused to be alone with Luke, and Luke had a woman sit in with us. I still refuse to be alone with any guy, even my dad," he explained.
We looked at him.
"Can we talk about something else? Just the mere mention is making my skin crawl," he said, shifting in his spot.
That's the most we would get from Julian. Since that night, we mentioned something about it; he would change the subject or walk away.
Uncle Cole explained its avoidance. Since I couldn't ask Uncle Luke because of him being Julian's therapist, I talked to Uncle Cole to get a better understanding of it.
Cole explained things without discussing Julian. He gave a neutral understanding of things. It's a broad explanation where he didn't mention Julian, but I had a better understanding of things.
We walked to class, and Everly gave me a sheepish look while I gave her a knowing look. There was something about her I wanted to know more than what we went through together.
It was like a force was pushing us together, and our worlds were colliding. That force was Uncle Cole, figures.
Now that I know that Everly liked the kiss and kissed me on her own accord, I figure I would see where things went. I knew one thing was for sure. I hope one day we can go on a date. That would be amazing.
