Wade

Adrian said all the paperwork is complete, and we could pick up the children. Cole wanted to come with me, but I told him, I tried to pick them alone. Make sure they were comfortable. Yeah, he pouted.

I showed up, and they took me to the children. They were waiting for me, and I walked over to them, crouching in front of them.

They looked at me. Blake furrowed his brows, and Brooklyn looked like she would cry.

"I know it's hard on both of you, but I promise we want you. Just give us a chance," I assured them.

"Bwake, I'm scared," Brooklyn said to him as she looked at him.

He turned to her. "I know. I am too. But I promise always to protect you." He looked at me. "You will not hurt us, will you?"

I looked at him, "Has someone hurt you before?"

He looked at me, and I knew at that moment what the answer was.

"I promise never to hurt you and love you. When you're ready, my offer is always available," I told Blake. He stood up and did something I wasn't expecting. He hugged me, and I immediately hugged him back. Brooklyn got up and hugged me. It felt right.

I stood up and held out my hands as they slid their small hands into mine. I looked at them. "Ready?"

They looked up at me, and both said, "Ready."

They carried their bag while I held their hands as we left the room, walking out of the building and to the car. I got them in their car seats. Once they were secure, I placed their bags into the trunk. I got inside and looked in the rear-view mirror. "Ready to go home?"

"Yep," they both said, and I smiled.

I pulled out and drove home. Sure, this might not be a conventional way of having kids, but I'm not exactly a traditional person. I knew that it's the right thing to do. Plus, now Cole can stop harassing me about having more kids.

Cole

Cade and I waited for Wade to come home with Blake and Brooklyn. I paced, and Cade played on his phone. Yeah, he was excited.

Finally, I heard a car pull up. It's about time. I grabbed my coat and threw it on. Then I ran out to the car. Before Wade got out, I whipped open the back door, and they screamed. I screamed. Wade yelled.

Okay, maybe I was impatient.

Wade got out of the car. "Cole! Are you trying to scare the kids?"

"Sorry I got excited." I shrugged.

He rolled his eyes and helped them out of their seats. He looked at them. "Excuse your other dad. He's excited to have you home."

Blake stuck close to Wade while Brooklyn clung to his legs. I crouched and looked at them. "I'm sorry. I was excited. I promise I'm not a bad guy," I assured them.

"Why did you draw on yourself?" Blake asked me, pointing to one of my tats.

"These are tattoos. They're permanent drawings. I got them for my sister," I explained to him.

"Oh, cool," he said, and I smiled.

"Are you both hungry?" I asked them.

They nodded.

"Let's have dinner, then we can have cake," I said to them.

"Cole!" Wade yelled.

"Ooh, cake. I wike cake," Brooklyn said. I looked at Wade, who sighed.
