I had taken Everly out on a traditional date, well sort of date. Since a movie was out because they don't do a close caption. But I did classic in the sense of having the time at home with a picnic and a movie. Dad helped me.

Cade took Andi out to the movies and dinner. Well, he didn't exactly decide; she told him. He needs a girl like that because if you leave it up to him, he still wouldn't be dating.

Julian went to the coffee shop and see Elias. They weren't dating, but getting to know each other. Baby steps.

Now, remember, I'm at my house, Cade is out with Andi and Julian is at the coffee shop with Elias. It is important.

Grandpa dropped Everly off at my house, and the wind was picking up. He said a storm was coming and needed to get home. He didn't like Grandma being alone.

Once he left, Everly removed her jacket, and we walked over to the picnic on the floor. Dad made spaghetti and rolls. It's one of my favorite meals.

We took a seat and started eating when the rain started. Yeah, it would be one heck of a storm.

For a date, a guy usually takes the lead. Not in my case, I get to go out on my first date with a girl who had no issue taking charge.

My dads told me it was better this way since I couldn't get it together with dating. Sheesh, you would think they would be happy their kid is taking their time.

So what if dating scared the hell out of most girls and me? No offense, but girls are hella scary with stuff, especially their monthly things.

We went inside the restaurant, and the wind was picking up. Great, here comes a storm. I freaking hate these things.

They seated us and ordered. As we talked and waited for our food, here came the rain.

"Don't tell me you fear a little thunderstorm," she said to me with a look.

"Define scared," I replied.

"It's just some rain. It'll pass," Andi said casually.

"You don't know that. A tornado could whip through and cause mass destruction. It could toss us around like rag dolls," I said emphatically.

"Or it could be rain, and it will pass. Cade, you're overthinking things. Not everything is bad, doomsayer," she giggled.

"I'm not a doomsayer," I said defensively.

"Oh, really," she challenged me. Then we heard the boom and crackle of the storm before it started pouring. The rain started.

I sat at the counter, talking to Elias when the rain started. It's a typical storm. I liked thunderstorms. People fear them, but I never did. They calmed me. Probably because life could be chaotic like a storm. I learned this more recently.

"You don't seem bothered that it's storming," he said to me as I sipped my coffee.

"Not really, storms have two options. They will create destruction, or they won't. You get one or the other. There is no middle ground. Sort of like the truth." I shrugged.

"Yeah, I love it when it storms. It's like this excitement builds then boom, it hits, and within minutes it's over with quickly," Elias said animatedly.

"After the way, my life has been going; I prefer a storm. At least I know what is coming," I scoffed as he looked at me.

"Yeah, but it can only get better from here. Once you hit bottom, the only way to go is up," he told me. That made me smile.
