Undoubtedly, the two chosen to attempt to break into the castle was none other than the Weasley twins. They had been notified of their job, and since then have been developing a plan.
Another fast week went by with surprisingly no disagreements, and all of the changes with new class times and new Professors have been going smoothly.
"May I please have your attention." Humfrey, wearing light green robes got to his feet as the forks scraped plates for the last bite of dinner. The chatter stopped and people turned curiously to the front of the hall.
"What's this about?" Hermione whispered to Draco.
"No idea." Draco whispered back.
"This year we are beginning a new event for the Triwizard tournament. Unlike the previous years, we're including Quidditch. Now for our Hogwarts students this year we won't have house teams, it'll all be combined into one. There will be four teams just as there is every year. One for each individual school, and one for returning students, and previous champions if they wish to take part. Tryouts will be held tomorrow as there are no classes on Saturday. We apologize for the short notice. If you're interested in trying out please notify your Headmaster."
"How will the captains be chosen?" A voice asked.
"By the people choosing the teams." Humfrey grinned and said as if it was the most obvious thing on the planet. "Which will be the Headmasters, and Harry Potter for the returning students. He will also be the captain. If you have issues with that, you can challenge him for the role. Now once you have finished, please get into a line in front of your Headmasters if you're interested. Returning students please go to Harry, and write your name on a piece of parchment. We will have extra broomsticks but it would be better if you brought your own. Thank you." The moment Humfrey sat down, students surged to the front.
Parchment after parchment was filled up until it felt like the whole hall was signed up for the trials.
"Wow..." Harry raised an eyebrow at the amount of names listed.
"This is definitely going to be a long day of tryouts. Well get some sleep everyone. Get up ready to work tomorrow morning." Humfrey stood up and led the way out of the hall. The group split off to go their separate ways leaving Hermione and Draco to walk alone.
"Are you trying out for Quidditch this year?" Hermione asked.
"Who knows. I mean it'll be pretty fun but we're already so busy and if I'm unavailable because of practices then you'd have to do more work and-"
"Draco." Hermione stopped and turned him to look her in the eye. "If you want to do Quidditch, then do it. I don't mind some extra work but we'd have to work something out beforehand. I'm not going to be the one to stop you so if you want to go for it, go for it."
"Really?"
"Of course! It's like you telling me I can't study as much as I do. That would be rude and stop me from doing something I enjoy." Hermione shrugged and they resumed their walk.
"Thanks." He tried to ignore the guilt of knowing that quite a few times, he indeed had been on the verge of telling her to stop studying.
"What position are you going to try out for?"
"Well Harry is obviously going to be the seeker. If I'm being honest that wasn't the position I really wanted, my father made me do that. Hopefully I'll get to be a chaser."
"Well good luck!" Hermione said their password and they entered their dorm.
"Thanks. There were a lot of people that signed up for the returning students team though. I only got on the team by buying my way in like you said, so I probably won't make it anyways."
"You weren't horrible. And you practiced with the Slytherin team for six years so you're a lot better than when you began." Hermione pointed out.
"I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow." Draco shrugged as they came to the top of the stairs.
"I'll be watching from the stands. Actually I'll be up with the Headmasters to get better view of you." Hermione smirked at the confusion spreading across his face, and went into her room before he could say anything else.
They both began their nighttime routines. Hermione ended up taking a quick shower, and dried her hair instantly with a spell before going to do her homework. She had decided to ignore all of the tangles in her hair that night. Draco on the other hand just changed into pajamas and brushed his teeth before going into the common room to start on his homework.
Hermione got to work right away. She took out all of her textbooks and scanned her planner to remember what she had to do for homework. Of course as soon as she started her assignment, Draco interrupted her thoughts.
"Hermione." He said obnoxiously loudly.
"I'm not doing your homework."
"I wasn't going to ask you to do my homework. I was going to ask a question, and needed the date." Draco said indignantly.
"Sorry. It really is just a habitual response since that's all Harry and Ron asked during sixth year. It's September 23rd, and also I thought you said that this year I was going to be the one asking you for help." Hermione smirked.
"I was going to ask about ancient runes." Draco purposely avoided her last comment.
"Now that, I can help you with." Hermione launched into a speech about everything they learned up to this point, and what he should know for the homework.
"I was just going to ask what the homework was but thanks." Draco raised an eyebrow.
"Oh." Hermione's cheeks flushed red. She quickly sat back down at her desk, finishing her homework in a flurry. The instant she was done, she raced up the stairs and went into her room.
Draco lied to her about only wanting to know what the homework was and her speech was actually very helpful, but she didn't need to know that. He picked himself up and laid on his bed, thinking about how his life would be if he was born into a different family. Maybe he wouldn't have done terrible things, and Dumbledore would still be alive? Maybe Hermione wouldn't have gone through whatever happened to her over the summer.
But then again, would he be where he was in this moment? He had to come to the conclusion that everything had to happen for him to be in his current situation, and he wouldn't trade that for anything in the world. All he could do is try to be better for Hermi-the wizarding world, and that's what he would do. With this in mind, he drifted off into a land where he could forget about all of his troubles.
