A.N. Just wondering, if I wrote a Dramione fanfic with my twist on a marriage law, would any of you read it or would it be too cliche? It's a storyline I've been thinking of writing about lately. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the chapter!
A few very uneventful days had passed, and the Quidditch season had begun. The coven hadn't made another appearance or sent a message, and the ministry was being very secretive with the one that they caught. Humfrey had taken advantage of the rare moment of calm, and decided to begin running some games between the three schools. Hermione and Draco had done some thinking together, and conferred with Humfrey to create the first game which was to be held later in the day.
"Are you ready?" Hermione asked excitedly, as she saw Draco appear from his room.
The game was all she could talk about the night before and contrary to what normally happened when the studied, he was unable to get any work done because of her. This was an outlet out of being consumed by the horrible memories that came at night.
"Hermione calm down. It won't even be happening until a little before dinner." Draco sighed.
"I know I know. The drawing of names for who's going to participate from each school will be drawn at lunch though and it'll be so fun! Don't be a party pooper." Hermione complained as they left the room.
"A what?"
"A party pooper. It means you're bringing my mood down."
"Oh shush. Let's get to lunch." Draco shook his head, and they walked into the Great Hall. As it was a Saturday, all of the students were laughing and talking excitedly about the game that was to take place and who they thought would be chosen to participate in the game to represent their school. Additionally, they were talking about how the choosing would take place.
"There they are." Hermione pointed to the three large top hats at the front of the hall, one for each school, and each one filled to the brim with the names of every single student from the school assigned to it.
"This plan to pick the students was brilliant." Draco commented.
"I know, I'm amazing. It's the best thing I could think of doing to mock the cruelty the ministry has put the schools through, masking how horrible the tournament was with a large money prize." said Hermione.
"I'm not sure how offended they'll feel, but that's nice that you're trying to get revenge." Draco said cheekily, and got a well deserved smack on the arm from Hermione.
"It resembles our newfound freedom without being held within the grasp of the ministry." Hermione said indignantly.
"Sure. Whatever you say. I just can't wait to see the headmasters scrambling around to their schools's section in each part of it trying to pick up the max number before they all fall to the floor.
"Is the three legged thing a good idea?" Hermione asked, slightly worried. "I don't want anyone getting hurt."
"Oh it's brilliant. I can't wait to see Humfrey and Chris trying to overpower Madam Maxime." Draco laughed.
"Shhh people are going to hear you. It's going to be a surprise remember?" Hermione hissed.
"We're at the Head table. Nobody can hear us in this loud hall." Draco pointed out.
"Oh shut up." Hermione snapped.
The whole hall seemed to have inhaled their food as quick as they could so the choosing could begin. Even the Professors seemed eager as to what Hermione and Draco came up with for the method of choosing.
"It's time." Humfrey announced, rising to his feet. "To explain how this will work, Hermione and Draco will - well I'm not even sure what's about to happen myself. Just pay attention!" Humfrey's eyes wandered curiously to the fabric in Hermione's hand.
"Thank you Professor Humfrey." said Hermione. Even though he told her to call him Humfrey, she was still careful to use his title when speaking in front of all three schools. "Well as you may know, I'm Hermione, and this is Draco. We're the Head boy and girl of Hogwarts and will be helping run these games. For today's choosing, each Headmaster will have the opportunity to represent their school, and try to get the maximum amount of students from their school for the game. All three will be bound by this piece of fabric I have here. One ankle from one of their legs will be joined together, and I will enchant it so it cannot be removed or come undone."
"I'm sure you've all noticed these top hats here. These are filled with the names of every single student in the school assigned to the hat, and each name has a specific color paper which represents the year the student is in. The contents will be blasted into the air in that school's section. Your Headmaster will then try to fight against the other two to get to your tables and successfully obtain twenty slips of paper. There has to be at least two of each color. Each headmaster will have a minute to complete this task, and we will reset between each run. Do you guys understand?" Draco finished, and turned back to the three Headmasters who looked excited to have a chance to participate. They nodded.
"Alright! Let's get you all set up in the middle." Hermione said happily, and led the way to the center of the room. She tied the fabric around each of their ankles, and enchanted it.
Meanwhile, the Hall buzzed with excitement as to whose names would be picked up. It was a fair chance for every student, and was not only centered on who was the largest or most athletic. It was pure chance, which was very contrary to what the Triwizard Tournament was about.
"Madam Maxime, are you ready?" Draco called out, his voice echoing off the walls. She drew herself up to her full height and nodded.
"Beauxbatons are you ready?" Hermione shouted. They erupted in cheers. "Then we will begin! Ready...set...go!"
