The Coffee Shop Between Heaven And Hell

It was embarrassing really. The angels flitted in and out 24-7, seven days a week while Korekiyo sat in the same table for who knows how many times he can here. The coffee shop was the most interesting thing in Purgatory, unless you like the barren lands outside of the Circle or the 'parks' with miles and miles of dirt you can sit in.

As noisy as it is, Korekiyo didn't want to sit outside and read. Besides, observing the shades of the patron's wings from a light black to a stained white is both an interesting and a concerning sight to see. The darker shade your wings have, the more sins you've committed and the harder it is to get to Heaven and vise versa. Though with Korekiyo's trope, his wings were a straight midnight black.

People didn't make fun of him for being a 'Sinner' or anything but it did cause him to get weird glances and obvious singling out, an experience he was no stranger to when he was alive. How did he die again? Was it hatred? Was it a group effort? It didn't matter, dying was still the best thing that could happened to him.

As a former anthropologist, he questioned the feeling of death to an unhealthy extent but when he went to that place, Korekiyo couldn't have asked for a better experience. He clenched the cover of his book with the pages in between, the world let him off too easy. If there was such things as gods they should've punished him for being so arrogant. How could his willpower be so weak that he needed another person to help him heal, not to mention someone that was dead already?

He sometimes wonders which plane his sister went to. If anything, she was already judged and hanging out with whoever she could in Heaven or Hell, Korekiyo didn't know. There was no point sulking over it now, he was acting out of line and he payed the price with continued shunning but this time he knew the exact reason. He placed the book on his lap and finally ordered something. Though, he didn't notice that the main employees were on break. He rung the bell and the lightest winged angel he ever seen came from the back whilst wiping his hands with a towel. He inhaled and smiled slightly with his eyes closed.

"What would you like today?"

"A green tea with a small piece of cheesecake."

"Who shall I write this under?"

"Korekiyo Shinguji."

He looked up for a second as his smile grew slightly. "Ah, it would be ready in sec."

Korekiyo sat back down and picked up his book again, yawning as he did so. He only came here to sit somewhere comfortable and ordering anything was already straying away from his original plan. Planning was the foundation of his well-being. Even though no one in Purgatory has a home, this was the only time he was going to see this place which interested him a lot. Especially the angel that was at the counter.

Being free of the time construct, it was painful not to know how long it's been or exactly how many days you have until you are finally judged. In Korekiyo's case, it was a perpetual thorn in his side but nothing he would panic over but speaking of 'over', the counter angel was coming over to serve him. Maybe he could get compensation in the form of a question for a presumably long wait time but Korekiyo wasn't that petty.

"Here ya go."

"Thank you but may I please question you for a bit? You've peaked my interest. "

"I was actually meaning to talk to you for a bit. Breaktime's over anyways."

"O-oh, thank you."

He sat down and rested his head on his fist on his kneed elbow, clearing his throat.

"I'll let you go first, you seem eager for some reason."

"I never really engaged in an actual interactive conversation and I didn't anticipate in engaging in one anytime soon but... your wing shade just caught my eye and I..."

"Woah, you have a way with words. If we're going to be friends, I'm going to need to carry a dictionary to understand what you say."

"F-friend?...!"

"What? This place is boring, I'm pretty boring and it's probably gonna be a long time before I get judged so why not? Besides, pitch black wings? You must have a very fruitful backstory."

'How did he turn the tables on me that quickly? I should be the one asking questions ' Korekiyo thought.
'-But if it means him being my so called friend, then I won't mind.'

"I guess I do but it was born from arrogance. I would like to forget about it if you will but if you want to hear snippets of my life then I will tell you."

"Ooooh, now that's exciting! We are going to be the best of friends."

"I am sure of that outcome."

"Nice! Until judged do us part."

"Yes, until judged do us part."

"Actually-"

Korekiyo's breathing hitched, he knew it was too good to be true.

"- until work time do us part. We've been talking for a lot longer than I thought and now it's work time for me. Cya Kiyo!"

He got up and sprinted towards the counter while Korekiyo turned to leave. It would be awakard to stay here any longer. He picked up his teaug and headed outside, leaving his uneaten cheesecake for someone else who waited longer than he has.

When Korekiyo went to throw the mug away, something was written under his name. He pulled it closer and read it out loud.

"'Rantaro Amami, don't forget.' Hmm, so that is his name? It slipped my mind about even asking. Thank you for the insight, Amami."
