Non-Despair AU
The long-haired boy kept his head down as he walked through the packed halls, scanning the distinct square pattern with his golden eyes. The litter of students covered the ends of the school as if they were grains of sand in a narrow jar. Though, with each grain of sand, came with its own voice:
"What's with his mask?"
"He looks like a girl!"
"What a fuckin' creep..."
And so on. The muttering of the students was nothing but white noise at this point, 'Ah, but this experience makes humanity much more fruitful.' Is what he would say,
If the experience wasn't every day.
Ever since he stepped through Hope's Peak doors, this 'experience' was very much giving. He tried to tune out the endless insults but a person can only take so much until they were cautious about absolutely everything they do. Until everything they did was was flawed,
Even breathing.
Though, through the fire and flames called 'Daily School Life', someone still managed no, DARED, to even approach him with pure intentions.
"Hey, Kiyo!"
He lifted his head up to find that his green-haired friend was running at him at full speed. Kiyo closed his eyes and lifted his shoulders to brace for the impact but instead, the smaller boy was smiling right in front of him, "Hello Rantaro... Hello." Rantaro was the most confusing case of a human he has ever seen. Both cool and level-headed personality but child-like spite in his diluted green eyes, a case that very much piqued his interest as well as Rantaro's.
Similar interests and the same amount of empathy that 2 people feel for each other makes friend-making really easy.
Rantaro gripped onto Kiyo's arm and ran out of Hope Peak's entrance,
"Rantaro, where are we going?" Kiyo ran steadily beside him as Rantaro ran outside. Rantaro stopped in front of a cafe as Kiyo blankly looked up at a sign on the fairly pristine looking building. 'Coffee and Creme' it read, "Why are we here? Class starts in 20 minutes." Rantaro shook the taller's arm in anticipation as Kiyo kept a blank expression."Well, we haven't hung out properly since we've met and I wanted to take you out." Kiyo didn't have the purest of minds, evident by the growing smirk under his mask, "Like... a date?" A faint blush appeared on Rantaro's face as he scratched the back of his head. A flustered smile made it's way to his face as his eyes stayed fixated on Kiyo's, "I didn't know you had that kind of mindset, Kiyo." A small smile appeared on Kiyo's face, and it even felt genuine, "It comes naturally, especially at our age."
"Well then, shall we go inside?" Kiyo had a burst of confidence as he walked inside the cafe, his arm around Rantaro's and his hair flowing as they briskly walked inside, "Wow, you're smiling? Such a rare sight." Rantaro smiled as he sat at one of the tables closer to the front, "You can put your new mood to good use by getting us some free drinks."
Kiyo ignored his playful comments and walked to the front counter. The barista stared at him in slight fear as he stood up straighter than he needed to, "Wha-What would you like today, s-sir?" Kiyo looked above the man to see an 'International' Menu. Kiyo looked back at Rantaro, somehow piecing together the most recent country he went to. Maybe being so quiet did improve intuition in some way.
"Can I get 'Southeast Asia Swirl' and a black coffee." The barista nodded frantically and quickly escaped to the back. Kiyo sighed and went back to the table Rantaro chose, "How's it going Kiyo?" Rantaro put gave him a concerned look before Kiyo looked up at him in disappointment.
