Remember, I always use female pronouns unless I say otherwise. Nothing against other genders, I'm just more adjusted to writing using the female pronoun. It's just a habit.
Y/n visited Rose Quartz everyday. She did it not just for fun, but because of the fights that happened at home between her soon to be divorced parents.
Today was the day Y/n would have to choose between her parents. She could either go with her father to Ocean Town, or stay with her mother in Beach City. It was too much pressure. So she left, off to go see Rose Quartz.
As Y/n approached the fence, she saw a familiar purple bird perched atop the fence. She tapped the fence lightly to show her that she was here.
"Oh! Hey, there, little Y/n!" The purple owl turned to her. "Here to see Rose again?" Y/n nodded. "I'll go get her!"
Amethyst spread her wings, flying into the air and towards the cave they lived in. Y/n always liked to think that they were just advanced cavemen, although Rose has said many times that they were not.
She saw the tall woman walking out of the cave. She looked over at Y/n and smiled widely, walking over to her. She leaped over the fence as if she did it all the time, which she probably did, given the fact that she left a lot to explore.
"Y/n! You're back! It's so good to see you again!" Rose said. Y/n gave her a weak smile. Rose immediately noticed something was wrong. "What's wrong, my little flower? Has something happened?"
Y/n nodded, pulling out a journal she wrote things in. She had to use it to say whatever was needed to be said. She had already written down everything that had happened as a preparation to explain to Rose, who she always vented to.
Y/n handed her the journal and she read it silently, her face growing sad with every word. As she finished, she looked down at Y/n and sighed, kneeing to reach her.
"That's terrible. You shouldn't have to be going through this, especially not this early in your life. You're being forced to choose even though you can't decide something like that... You must be under a lot of pressure." Rose said as she cupped Y/n's face in her hands. Y/n nodded and closed her eyes, looking down. Rose smiled weakly.
"Maybe you can stay here with your mother, and we'll stay together..." She said. Y/n looked up at her, and Rose noticed her glassy eyes. Her smile disappeared. "Or maybe you can go with your father, and I'll try and go visit you..."
Y/n rubbed her nose, her eyes stinging from holding back tears. Even though Rose has seen her cry before, Y/n wants Rose to think she's strong when in reality, she's not.
She grabbed the journal and scribbled down her next note, and showed it to Rose.
I can't decide. Will you choose for me? You're smart, you can decide which is best for me.
"Oh, Y/n... I couldn't decide something like that for you... I wish I could help you, but this is something you must solve yourself. I know you're strong. Whatever you choose, everyone will be supportive of you and will not try to make you pick the other. You pick the one that makes you feel most at home." Rose said. Y/n looked down and rubbed a stray tear away. "Which do you feel most home at?"
Y/n already knew which one. But she couldn't let go of the people she would lose. She felt like a part of her was being torn away, and there was no way of fixing the broken pieces left of her. But she had to pick. There was nothing else she could do.
"Have you decided?" Rose asked. Y/n nodded. Rose pulled her into a hug, stroking her hair. "No matter what, whether you leave or stay, I'll make sure you're happy with your decision. Now, go home and tell your parents which one you choose."
Rose pulled away and smiled. Y/n gave her a weak smile. Rose patted her back as she turned to walk away.
"Good luck!" Rose waved goodbye. Y/n waved as she walked down the beach, off to find her parents.
~~~
Rose waited anxiously on the other side of the fence for Y/n, to see if she was saying goodbye or if she was going to stay with her.
Hours passed as Rose waited, and she began to think that Y/n had left. She was sad about it, for she had grown quite fond of the child. But she promised to stay supportive and keep her happy, and that's what she planned to do.
Just as Rose was about to give up, knowing that she couldn't wait all day since she had missions to do, she heard the small, almost silent sound of feet running through the sand. She turned and saw Y/n running to her. Rose gasped and reached out for Y/n, ready to hug her.
Y/n jumped into her arms, immediately letting out silent sobs as she squeezed Rose. Rose held her close, holding her like she was a small baby in her arms.
"You stayed. That means you must have said goodbye to your father..." Rose said. Y/n nodded. Rose smiled softly. She wiped away Y/n's tears. "I'm sure he'll come to visit you sometimes. After all, you are his child. He still loves you. He'll probably miss you everyday."
Y/n pulled out her journal, showing the papers Rose. Rose read them.
I got to help him pack, and as a goodbye, he took me out to get ice cream one last time. I always did like going out to get ice cream, so he decided that would be a nice goodbye.
"Oh, how sweet. See? He's not leaving you forever. It's just another goodbye for a temporary time. He'll return, you just have to be patient. He still loves you, and he will come back." Rose said. Y/n smiled and hugged her. "I'm here for you. I'll never leave you, I promise. I'll always be here for you..." She stroked Y/n's hair as she held her close.
~~~
That was fourteen years ago. Y/n was now much older, and had a new friend. His name is Steven. He's Rose's son. She gave up her physical form for him.
Of course, that means she broke her promise, but Y/n is fine with it. Y/n knew that Rose was happy to have a child, and so she was supportive of her.
Her and Steven consider each other brothers and sisters because of how close they are because of Rose. Y/n is happy that Steven is around now. He's not Rose, he's something better.
That's what she needed. Something new. Something better. And thanks to Rose, she has it now. And she is very thankful of that.
"C'mon, Y/n, Connie wanted to hang out!" Steven called from the door. Y/n smiled at him and gave him a thumbs up. "Okay, I'll be waiting outside." He smiled back.
He's perfect in Y/n's eyes.
What did you think? Was it a good first oneshot? I've never written one, so I don't know if it's good.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed!
