[Pearl × Lonely!Reader]

Y/n used to be a happy person. She was always excited to see the Crystal Gems. Especially Pearl. Her and Pearl got along better than even Ruby and Sapphire sometimes. They never argued or fought, they were always very nice to each other, and were just perfect for each other. There was no other way to describe it.

That was before. Now things were different. Y/n didn't come to see them. She wasn't the happy person she used to be. Pearl had no idea what was wrong. Every time she asked, Y/n would yell at her or push her away.

Today she was going to try again. Pearl was going to try and ask Y/n what was wrong.

Pearl knocked on the door of her house. No answer. She rung the doorbell. No answer.

She finally decided to try just walking in. She knew it was breaking and entering, but she was worried.

She found the living room was cleaner than usual. It was usually a bit dirty since Y/n wasn't the tidiest person.

The kitchen was clean, too. Sparkling in fact. It almost felt like Pearl had entered the wrong house.

She walked upstairs and found Y/n's bedroom door ajar. She pushed it open all the way and saw Y/n laying in her bed, her face in her pillow.

"Hello, Y/n... I came to see if you were okay." Pearl said as she smiled a bit, walking up to her. She sat down on her bed and rubbed her back. She felt Y/n shudder. She was trying to hold back tears. But with Pearl here, it was hard.

"I-I'm fine. Can you please leave?" Y/n stuttered. She felt Pearl grab her hand and pull her up. Pearl saw her face and pillow were soaked in tears.

"Y/n, you are not fine. Please tell me what's wrong." Pearl said. Y/n glared at her.

"How many times do I have to tell you that I'm fine? You've been asking me that question for a week now. My answer is not going to change." She said. She felt Pearl's fingers intertwine with hers.

"But your answer is wrong. You need to correct it." She said. Y/n glared at her, although she couldn't stay mad. Pearl was her best friend. How could she stay mad?

"F-Fine. I'll tell you." Y/n said. Pearl scooted closer and wrapped her arm around Y/n's shoulders.

"Go on. I'm listening." Pearl said.

"I... I lost a friend. It's not that we didn't want to be friends, they just... They took their life. They were depressed and hated themself. I told them to stay, but..." Y/n couldn't speak anymore. She choked on a sob. "We were so close. We had known each other for so long and when they died, I felt so awful. I felt like it was my fault I couldn't save them. I miss them so much!"

Y/n wrapped her arms around Pearl and cried on her shoulder. Pearl, a bit shocked, wrapped her arms around Y/n. She felt so bad.

"But, Y/n, it's not your fault. You never did anything to them. You only tried to help. Sometimes, though, words aren't enough. Sometimes it's the actions that matter. Maybe if people really tried, they wouldn't have done that." Pearl said as she stroked Y/n's hair. Y/n sniffed.

"I felt so empty and lonely after they died. I-I felt so bad. That's why I couldn't talk to you or anyone else. I felt like it was my fault they died. And that if it was my fault, then others would start to hate me and take their lives. I-I couldn't stand the thought of it. So I pushed you away. I-I couldn't imagine losing you like I did them." Y/n said.

"I'm not going to leave you ever. I'll stay around forever. You don't have to worry at all." Pearl said. Y/n smiled weakly and pulled Pearl into another hug. They sat in silence like that for a while, happy just to be in each other's presence. Finally, after a while, Y/n spoke up.

"I love you, Pearl." She said. Pearl smiled and hugged her tighter.

"I love you, too, Y/n." She said.

I feel like I ended this too abruptly and I hate it but I love the rest of this chapter. It's perfect in my opinion. Finally, something I wrote that I can be proud of.

Also, when the two said they love each other, I wanted it to be so that the reader can choose how they want it. You can make it romantic or platonic.
