Y/n met Steven the day he met Connie. Although, not the way you'd expect. It wasn't because her and Connie were friends, it was because Y/n was bullying her.
Y/n was Connie's bully. She would make fun of her everyday for being lonely or making her feel bad. Nobody ever really tried to stop Y/n, until one day somebody caught Y/n in the act on the beach.
Connie sat down with her book on the sand and looked around. She wanted to be alone for now. She was tired of being near people at the moment and just wanted an escape from reality.
As she opened her book and began reading, she heard the familiar snickering of Y/n as she approached.
"Hey, there, four eyes." Y/n greeted in her usual rude tone.
"Four eyes? That's all you've got?" Connie raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, come on, it's a classic. What do you want me to call you? Shorty? Nerd?" Y/n continued to annoy her.
"Do you have to do this right now? I'm kind of in a bad mood right now." Connie said.
"It's my job to make sure you keep that bad mood, so yeah, I have to do this right now." Y/n smirked. Connie sighed and closed her book.
"Fine. I'll leave. You can't bother me in my home." She said as she began standing up.
"You can't stay in there forever. You know you'll have to face me sometime or another." Y/n said.
"No, I won't." Connie turned away from Y/n.
"You can't ignore me! I'll make sure I'm there to bother you everywhere you go! I'll be there to make sure you know just how terrible you are." Y/n said. Connie sighed. That always got to her, somebody saying she was terrible.
"Hey!" Somebody shouted. Y/n raised an eyebrow and turned to see who it was, Connie just as curious. They saw a boy who was shorter than both of them, probably up to Y/n's shoulders. He had a red shirt with a star, blue jeans and sandals on.
"Who's this? Another loser for me to tease?" Y/n smirked at him as she placed her hands on her hips.
"You leave her alone. She didn't do anything to you." He said. Y/n walked up to him.
"Oh, yeah? And what are you gonna do about it, Curly?" She patted his dark curly hair.
"I'm gonna send you running off like a big baby. And my name is Steven!" The boy said. Y/n chuckled.
"Oh, please. I doubt you could even scare off this wimp back here, let alone try and scare me." She said as she pointed to Connie.
"I can! I can beat you up if I need to! I'm magical! See?" Steven raised his shirt to reveal a pink gem on his navel. Y/n raised an eyebrow.
"Magical? I'm not stupid. Why don't you just go bother someone else? I'm kinda busy." Y/n crossed her arms.
"No! Not until you leave her alone! She didn't do anything to you!" Steven said.
"Oh, yeah? How do you know? You don't even know our names!" Y/n said.
"W-Well... I don't! But it doesn't matter if I know you or not! What does matter is that what you're doing is wrong and you need to be stopped!" Steven pointed his finger at her.
"You can't make me stop! Just go away!" Y/n yelled.
"Not until you leave her alone!" Steven exclaimed. Y/n growled.
"Ugh, fine! If I leave her alone, will you go away?" Y/n asked. Steven nodded. "Well, fine! I'll go! Jeez, you're so annoying..." Y/n stormed off. Steven and Connie watched her leave.
"Sorry about that... Uh... I'm Connie." She stuck her hand out for Steven. He shook it. "That was Y/n... She bullies me..."
"She's certainly a mean one. But she's gone now, so you're safe. My job here is done!" Steven smiled.
"Your job is stopping bullies, huh?" Connie smiled.
"Protecting Beach City. But stopping bullies is part of it." Steven said. "Anyways, I've gotta go. See you later?"
"See you later." Connie said. Steven smiled happily and walked away, waving to her. She waved back and watched him leave.

The next day, Steven walked outside along the beach and saw a couple people standing on the beach. It was two grown women and one child, a girl he recognized. It was the bully from yesterday.
Just as he was walking up to her, ready to stop her from bullying anyone else, he noticed the three were laughing.
"Thank you so much again. We really appreciate the support." One of the grown women said.
"I'm happy to help. I just want to make sure those kids get new homes." Y/n said. She waved as she watched the two women walk away.
"Support? New homes? What were you three talking about?" Steven asked. Y/n suddenly gasped and turned to face Steven.
"Were you eavesdropping on me?!" She exclaimed.
"No! I just so happened to be passing by when I noticed you talking to them!" Steven said.
"Uh huh. Right. What do you want?" Y/n asked.
"I was just wondering... What were you three talking about?" Steven asked.
"It's none of your business!" Y/n raised her voice. Steven gave her puppy eyes.
"Please?" He begged. Y/n frowned, looking into his eyes. She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"It was... It was donations to the orphanage... It was for the kids." Y/n said. Steven's eyes widened with shock. The bully was donating things to an orphanage? That wasn't expected.
"Y/n! That's so sweet of you! I can't believe you're actually nice!" Steven said as he hugged her in a bone crushing hug.
"Hey! I'm not nice! I was just doing a favor for... For some kids!" Y/n hesitated to say who exactly it was for. Steven took note of this and set her down.
"Just for some kids? Or what it for someone specific?" He asked.
"I'm not gonna spill all my secrets to some kid I just met yesterday!" Y/n exclaimed. Steven clasped his hands together and made a pouty face, begging her. She couldn't resist his faces. "Ugh, fine! Yes, it was for someone specific! It was for my friends back at the orphanage."
"Were your friends sent there and you got separated?" Steven asked. Y/n was silent for a moment. She looked down.
"No... I was separated from them when I got adopted..." She rubbed her arm nervously. Steven frowned.
"You're... Adopted? Is that why you're so mean? Because you're mad that you got separated from your friends?" Steven asked. Y/n nodded, not making eye contact. Steven smiled softly. "Well, to cheer you up, I guess I was technically adopted, too!"
"You were?" Y/n looked up at Steven. He shrugged.
"Sort of. My mom died giving birth to me, and so her friends, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl take care of me!" Steven said. Y/n smiled.
"I guess that cheers me up. It's... It's nice to know that not all the kids in this town are all goody two-shoes." Y/n said. Steven grabbed her hand and began walking down the beach.
"Come on. I want you to meet my family." He said. Y/n smiled.
"Okay. Take me to them." She said. They walked down the beach, making their way to Steven's beach house.
This was the start of an amazing friendship.
I don't think this one was as good as my first one...
