Lunch
Middleton High
Travis pov
Mel and I saw Diane at the library and decided to hang out there for a little, Melanie somehow convinced her teacher to let her go for that class period since they had 'nothing else to do'. "What's that you're reading? Astronomy again?" Mel uses her finger to place the book down on the table that Diane was reading.
Despite the large size of the black hoodie she had on, she looked comfy in it. Diane's face went into slight frown, as her eyes went up to us, "What's that? A what-you-call-it...uhhh.....a galaxy?" Mel looks at a picture in the book, "Supernovae."
"Yeah that thing." she laughs, "So we're about to go and grab something wanna go with us?"
"No thanks" Diane says plainly. "Why not? I never see you there" I sigh. "She had an anxiety attack there" Mel corrects, Diane didn't like how she was just exposed, but hid her expressions more, slowly being drawn to the words in her book again.
"But I mean, D, if you could fight Tee in front of the whole school, then you can just grab some lunch! We'll get in line with you!" Mel assures her. "Everyone's gonna look at us cause of Travis....and maybe me- but mainly because of Travis!" her cheeks slightly tint to a small red but went back to normal quickly.
"We won't let anyone bother you! They're probably talking about you being their hero more of." Mel goes to a mutter.
"I'm not hungry" Diane says again.
"Come on Diane at least do it one time" Mel continues. "No!" I placed my hand on top of Diane's, her brown eyes looked up at me, "We won't let anyone bother you, promise." "...." she slowly looked back at our hands, then slowly slid hers away, "Fine."

Diane's pov
I looked around, seeing some people look at me, but didn't really pay any attention. Maybe its just me, I'm just worrying too much. But I have to get over this fear, or at least try. But now that Travis and Mel was with me, I felt different. I felt normal, like an actual normal person, nothing bothering me, just blending in with everyone else for once.
We was standing in line, and my name being called was the one thing that shook away my thoughts, "Diane!" someone came over to me from a different line.
A girl with blonde hair and brown eyes was talking to me, I don't know this girl! "You taught Tee a good lesson the other day! I heard she got expelled! Did she get expelled?" she asks me, she seemed friendly. I nod, "Oh my- girl you did everyone a favor! I didn't like that girl at all!" she smiles, I smile back as she goes back and blends into the sea of teenagers and high schoolers.
"Did I do that?" I ask, "Yes, yes you did Diane." Mel laughs silently.
"I told you guys I'm not used to socializing! What if someone told her to do that just to make me warm up? What if a teacher-"
"Diane you're thinking too much again" Mel looks at me, I roll my eyes. "Well she has a point when you put it together. If you're antisocial like that, then you can always make an Instagram, and just use a photo of a planet or something. That way you can talk to people without seeing their face?" Travis shrugs. I cross my arms and look up at him, "Ha ha. Very funny Mr. Instafamous. Besides how many you got?" "910K" I raise an eyebrow in shock, "Really?"
"Yes, and maybe I can help you up as well if you make an insta."
"...eh maybe....but no thanks" I sigh. After we got our lunch, we went outside, despite the bitter cold and ate at a table. Travis had....never have I ever seen a guy eat a salad before. Melanie only had one of those ice cream cups. The school gives us ice cream everyday, and Mel ALWAYS had it with her lunch, that's what she told me-some days like this, she just had it alone. Her favorite was vanilla. I, on the other hand had soup and grilled cheese.
The moment I took a bite of the soup, I had chills going up and down my spine, my stomach gracefully embraced the hot soup, mmm, chicken noodle, one of my favorites.
It was like I haven't ate in almost 2 years. I don't completely starve myself, sometimes I go to the vending machine and get something. My grandparents were extremely worried since I didn't eat lunch at school, I knew they called because I was called up there one day to guidance, and I was not happy.
I actually wasn't hungry, I prefer to stay and read in the library and talk with Mrs. A. They talked to me about how important it was to have lunch, because its good for the body and it's not healthy starving myself and all that.
'If you go out some time in the cafeteria and meet some people in there, you could probably have lunch buddies, or even make friends.'
PFFT! Lunch buddies? Is that even a word anymore? Listen 'buddy' this ain't the 80s or 90s anymore. Once the first day of school is over, everyone claims their tables, everyone has their groups, everyone claims their turf!- you have no idea how I wanted to say that.
I don't think these people ever heard of the word 'introvert'. I was thinking as I ate the soup, my grilled cheese was gone, and I dipped my plastic spoon in in the styrofoam soup cup, then looked in it-nothing. "What happened to my soup?"
"You ate it Patrick Star" Travis jokes, Mel, clearing her throat holding her laughter.
