Lunch
School
Diane's pov
We had a few minutes left for lunch before the bell would end lunch, and begin class change. "I'm just here to check on you that's all." I slip my book bag on my back. "Diane I told you-"
"Travis you're acting like you're okay when you're not, I'm just a bit worried that's all." I say.
"Just a bit?" he questions.
"You came from the hospital because you almost died like a few weeks ago, am I not supposed to be worried?" I stop in the middle of the hallway, people passing by and talking.
"Now you're saying you're not hungry, loss of appetite? What's going on?! How could you be so jolly and happy like none of this ever happened? And why are you with me? Aren't you supposed to be with the cool people out there or whatever?!" I wipe a tear, his hand lands on my head. I grabbed his wrist and gently take it away from my head, if only he could STOP TOUCHING MY HAIR! I looked at the small healing cuts on his arm, and looking at the details of his smooth tanned down skin.
"I just want to make sure you're okay, I just don't want to lose anymore people that I love." my voice slightly lowers. I let his wrist go, my fingers slightly trembling after realizing what I just said. "...Did you just say what I thought I just heard you say?" he looks at me. "What?😳" my heart begins beating faster, pumping blood and flush it through my cheeks.
"D-Did I say something wrong?" I felt more embarrassed by how I just stuttered. Did I really just said what I thought I said?! OF COURSE I DID, I DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT!! AND NOW TRAVIS IS SEEING IT FROM A DIFFERENT VIEW NOW! I'M DONE FOR!
"Diane stop playing dumb on me. I feel the same way for you" I look up at him, I opened my mouth to say something but was interrupted by the sound of heels going up the stair case Travis and I were near. We quickly walked down the hallway more and turned a corner at the lockers and walked slowly, I was the nearest to the lockers and Travis was beside me. At this point barely anyone was in the hallways. Meaning class is about to begin, the tardy bell is gonna ring in a bit.
"...."
"..."
"Travis are you running a fever or something?" I ask him as the lunch bell rings, beginning class change for the next five minutes.
"W-what do you mean?" he slightly stutters, trying to cover it.

"I mean...nothing never mind, I-I gotta get to class" I laugh nervously, I try to shake the conversation off and begin to walk away, trying to escape. "Was it what I told you? Fine. I love you Diane, so why won't you love me back?" he says. I stop in my tracks.
The blush was definitely showing on my face, I had so much to say, but didn't know how to, the words are stuck in my throat. I couldn't even look at him, my eyes stayed glued to the floor. I look up at Travis and walk back to him slowly. My heart is beating faster and faster, come on Diane why can't you say it? Just three words-well maybe four! Just say it really fast and-no! Travis won't catch on to it, then you'll have to say it again. Only 3 seconds passed by before his hands softly landed on my shoulders,
(ya'll:
"......Why?" he looks me in my eyes. He can walk pretty fast....wait it looks like I barely moved at all, never mind. I only made baby steps compared to his. Both of us had the same pitiful look. I felt somewhat heartbroken by someone I was never with. "Travis...." AH GREAT! THE WORDS GOT STUCK IN MY THROAT! Why? Why does this keep happening? I was on the verge of tears, feeling pressured even more. "....I-I.... I think it's best that we stay friends. I don't think this could work out....there's someone else much better out there for you. I'm just not the one Travis" to be honest I'm not sure if I am ready for a relationship, but seems destiny knows when its time.
(THE TIME IS NOW)
"She's right here, and I found her already. Diane, it took some time but I realized you're the one. I mean the best things come in small packages don't they?" his face gets closer to mine. "I really don't get it Diane, we both feel the same way about one another"
"Maybe because....I-I really think we should be friends." I back up just a little. "I'll wait for you." he says. "What?! No you won't!" I look at him like he's crazy.
"I will." he says, with a slight hurt closed mouth smile resting on his lips.
"No you won't!"
"I will. Because you're the only one I felt this way about. I don't know what to call it but I never really felt this way before with anyone. It somehow feels as if I found my soulmate or something-" I place my fingers on his lips, "I don't want to break your heart Travis, really." I say as the tardy bell rings.
