“Why does love always feel like a battlefield? Better go and get your amour.”
Battlefield by Jordin Spark

She sees Noah beside his black SUV as she makes her way outside, waiting for her. She notices that the side of his mouth Luke’s fist had hit earlier has turned dark purple and his burst lips were now swollen. The sight of him is not the best and Avril feels bad for him to an extent because she knows he deserves what he’s getting.

“Thought you were going to stay there for fucking forever!” He cusses in annoyance and opens the door of his car.

She glares at him. “It’s not your business how long I take. I’m out, aren’t I?” she’s trying to keep her cool, but Noah seems to provoke every rational part of her.

“Get in.” He says, more of command and enters the car as well.

She wants to curse and be stubborn and maybe frustrate his life a little, but she decides on saving her strength and enters the car without uttering another word. He starts the car and they drive off.

After driving for what seems like forever and in silence, Noah stops the car in front of a gigantic mansion having an oldish look and gets down from the car. Avril does the same, hugging her coat closer to her body because of the cold.

The mansion they are both standing in front of looks like an old family house and although there are still new touches here and there on the house, the oldness is still obvious to Avril.

“I thought we were supposed to sign the document that put an end to the contract. What are we doing here?” Avril asks, getting more paranoid than she wants to be.

That they are alone and in front of an old mansion with no assurance of safety for almost ten miles away is enough to scare her.

He glances at her, and there’s a look of pain on his face. “The contract ends in there and we are here to go back in time and undo your little dirty deeds with Luke.” She groans and turns to walk back to the car, but he takes hold of her arm and pulls her closer. “You think I didn’t know Luke was at your place six months ago and that you two fucked? Or that three months ago you spent the night at his place and stayed the morning with him? You think I don’t know you two fucked behind my back?!”

“If you knew, why didn’t you say anything?” She asks as she struggles to get free from him.

“Because I loved you.” He insists, and Avril still thinks that’s the stupidest crap she has ever heard.

He climbs a few steps and gets to the corridor of the mansion, before pulling out a bunch of keys from the pocket of his leather jacket and opening the door. He walks inside, ushering Avril inside silently and even though all her senses tell her to flee and save herself, he lets her drag herself inside the mansion and the door closes.

She thinks back to what he had said and can’t help scoffing, “Yeah, right.” And hiss at how pathetic his reason is. “You put me through hell. You tortured and tormented me for months. You hit and beat me for fun. You forced yourself on me countlessly times, but I’m not allowed to call that rape because it was stipulated in your stupid contract. I was miserable and afraid and terrified of what you’d put me through next. If that is love, keep it away from me.”

“You’re right, I was a monster, but do you think Luke can do well? You think Luke loves you?” He lets go of her arm and laughs hysterically, clutching his stomach hard. “Oh, you’re so naïve. It’s pathetic, actually. Luke doesn’t give two shit about you the minute he gets what he wants, which is that tight pussy of yours. He’ll drop you before you can say Cinderella.”
