A day of worry is more exhausting than a week of work. - John Lubbock——————————————————
~The Way To Recovery~
I finished packing my things carrying at least three suitcases to my truck. I then proceeded to load the horses. Jack was racing around with Atlantic Black, kicking up the mud. Promise and Amaya followed after them, well this is gonna be a hard catch.
I took Jack's halter and lead rope climbing the fence to catch him. He bucked at Atlantic Black before finally noticing me. He galloped over his head high. Show off! He slammed to a stop inches in front of me, splashing splotches of mud on my clothing.
I rolled my eyes at him slipping the halter on. Atlantic Black was play fighting with Promise. Amaya rearing up in excitement. I loaded Jack in the trailer, grabbing another halter. It took me thirty minutes to get them all in, Atlantic Black wouldn't stop bolting away.
I was now in my truck with a new pair of clothing, let's just say the others turned brown... I began my long five hour drive to the destination. I wasn't more than an hour in when someone called me. I connected the phone to the car. "How's the drive?" Will's voice asked.
"Boring, I seem to hit every red light!" He chuckled, "Good thing I called when I did." I grinned, we haven't been able to talk much since camp ended. He was either working with Tennis or I was off doing labor around the farm.
"Am I going to be stuck with you for four hours?" I groaned. His laughed filled the truck causing me to laugh along. Him and his contagious laugh out to ruin me. I drove for another hour listening to him ramble on about his problems.
I wasn't all that interested since his problems were his sister eating his candy. Apparently that 'crisis' as he put it could take up a whole hour! I pulled over to check the horses. Getting out of my truck Jack nickered. A smile instantly stretched across my face.
Atlantic Black nodded his head impatiently. "He could go as a yearling," Will said to me, his voice muffled due to my phone being in my jacket. A chuckle escaped my lips, Promise eager to greet me. I opened their windows greeting each of them with a wide smile.
I filled the water buckets then proceeded on the long torment drive. When I was just barely an hour away everyone facetimed me! "Are you almost there?" Emily questioned. "Yes," Will answered for me. "How would you know?" Luke asked in a suspicious tone. "He's been talking to her like the whole trip!" Hannah shouted like it was the biggest thing ever.
"Have not!" He quickly defended. "Only for three hours then," She smiled, Will rolled his eyes. "Guys!!!!!!!! A new picture just released! It's going to be such a sad movie," Ben moaned. "Infinity War End Zone?" Xavier guessed. Ben nodded sniffing and pretending to hold an imaginary tissue box. I laughed they never seized to bore me.
"What are you going to say when you get there?" Samantha asked. "I'm the magnificent Kiley Tyler awaiting to be introduced!" Ben said his british accent sticking out roughly. "London boys," Emily rolled her eyes. "London girls," Ben copied. "London people," Will added. Ben held his hand to his heart resembling a pained expression, "That is deeply offensive." Will kept silent challenging Ben. It wasn't but five seconds before Ben's stern face turning to amusement.
"Hey Samantha where's your devil?" Hannah winked. "In his room listening to some kind of music that he feels my whole family needs to hear." I picture Nathan on his phone, the music blaring, and poor Samantha unable to escape! The thought tickled me.
"Nathan turn your freaking music down!!!!! I can't hear my friends!" She yelled. I cringed, gosh that hurt. "Geez woman," Luke hissed. "Your problem!" Nathan shouted back. I took a quick glance at the screen to see everyone holding their ears or yanking at their hair.
I was supposed to arrive at the ranch in thirty minutes. I guess time does fly when you're talking with weirdos. "Are you guys ready for camp though?" Samantha smiled brightly. "Yes!!!!!!!! I never got to play volleyball for very long," Ben stated. "I'm beating you this year Will," I snapped Will shooting me a boyish grin. "I want to work on an epic show for show off skills! You guys can perform it and I'll post it on YouTube," Emily clarified.
"I just want to have room to get away from Xavier, he's always around," Luke complained. Xavier scowled at him, "This is my house, of course I'm always going to be around! Go to yours." "But if I do, how will I annoy you?" Emily intervened, "You two are impossible." "You're impossible!" They shot back. They continued to argue for the next half hour. I parked the truck fear written in my face.
"You've got this Kills!" Hannah encouraged. "Kills?" Luke cocked an eyebrow. "Hey only I can call her that! Did you hear that Will? Only me!" I laughed at how defensive Hannah was. "How was I dragged into this?" Will furrowed his eyebrows. "Cause you're you, you talk to Kiley all the time so I consider you a threat," Hannah explained.
A woman waved at me, I took in a shaky breath, "Here I go, bye." I hung up walking over to the woman. "Kiley, I'm thrilled to meet you. I'm the owner of this here ranch, we're very glad you accepted our request. I'm Linda Kade," she took out her hand and I shook it.
"How was your drive?" She asked as we walked over to my trailer. "Long, but my friends wouldn't stop talking so it wasn't that bad." She laughed nodding to me. I unloaded the horses, myself holding Jack and Amaya while she held Promise and Atlantic Black.
She then proceeded leading me to my 'guest' house. "Your horses are quite gorgeous, how did you come by them?" I smiled thinking back to last year at camp, along with the first time I'd ever laid eyes on Jack.
"Jack came from a horse breeder. Promise from the wild. Atlantic Black from a teacher at Sorrel Hill. Amaya came from some guy that was sending her to slaughter, but he was really against it and super nice!" I grinned. She nodded along as I spoke.
She took me to my guest house, a small attachment of six stables on the side of it, and a decent sized pasture which connected to the stables.
I walked them in the stalls, turning to Mrs. Kade, "Mrs. Kade, thank you so much for the invite, but what exactly did you want me for?" The question has been nagging me all day.
"Please it's Linda, I've heard a great deal about you. Training a mustang, the champion jumper, riding all different disciplines, when I saw your profile on Facebook I knew I had to have you here." She placed a hand on my shoulder.
"You see we've been having trouble with this horse. Her name is Painted Magic, her barn name Magic. She's our first painted Thoroughbred, and she's a crazy gal at that. My son has put months into that mare just to get her rideable, but we're having trouble keeping her in a fence! She always jumps out and when my son rides her, she rears and leaps out of nowhere!" Linda ranted.
I looked at her, like really looked at her. She had concern written all over her face one I've only seen on my mother. That face happened when I fell from, Promise this year. I have been trying to break her, and when my mother saw me fall she ran to my side immediately. That look was designated to a mother being concerned for their child.
"Please Kiley, you're my best hope. For not only the mare, but my son's safety." Her eyes pleaded there was no way I could say no. I nodded and Linda wrapped me in a hug. Jack nickered showing his yellow teeth, we laughed at the goofy horse then walked to my guest house.
Linda stopped me right before I opened the door, "Kiley this really means a lot to me, thank you. Dinner is at six down at my house. After dinner I'd suggest you get an early start tomorrow morning we start at five A.M. ." Five A.M. ? Why so early? I nodded anyway walking into the house. It was amazing! The wood was hardfloor, the walls carved wood, there was a couch to the left facing a fireplace. A small kitchen to the right with a dishwasher and microwave, along with a mini fridge. I smiled running up the stairs finding an open doorway. I barged in to see a bed against a wall with a window over it. A desktop behind the bed, a closet on the opposite wall.
I grinned widely, running downstairs and out to the stables. Jack nickered to me, his head stretched out over the door. I opened the stall doors and the horses ran out excited.__________________________________________________________________________________________
