I was falling.
Falling through time and space and stars and sky and everything in between.
I fell for days and weeks and what felt like lifetime across lifetimes.
I fell until I forgot I was falling."
― Jess Rothenberg, the Catastrophic History of You and Me
Jace POV: I run through the field, taking down a single demon on the way to where Julian stood.
He was covered in ichor, but somehow not wincing when he touched it.
"Have you seen Izzy?! Alec and I have been looking for her!"
"No...! I think she went after Simon!?" I shake my head, pointing in the direction where the battle kept on, where simon was clearly fighting some hideous endarknend woman. There were more shadowhunters here than I thought; Aline called for more help a while ago, after realizing this was not going to be a fair fight. Their were too many of them. Now shadowhunters from various institutes and mostly idris, came to fight alongside us.
Demons come around to us, but we keep talking anyway, even as a hellhound starts barking annoyingly in my face.
"If she did, she is bad at finding people. I think she went after a child of hers or someone else young. That sounds like an izzy thing to do."
Julian calls out to look behind him- I bring down Eremiel curving to my left to find nothing there but remains of what Julian clearly did... it was already shivling away back to its hell hole of a home.
"Why would you? How could you? I could have killed you you stupid-"
"I said that on purpose... I wanted to be able to talk face to face... !" even though I was closer o Julian, the noise level on the field was too chaotic to hear anything clearly. Lucky on my part, I had a clerity rune on.
"We have to go to the hill. We can see more up there."
I nod in agreement. I had to know where to find Jade and Lydia. Lydia was missing when they tried capturing us... most definitely after Sebastian and her sister. His new endarkened led us to a trap more than anything else, bringing us outside to fight, as though he wanted a war. Sounds like Sebastian to me.
"I have to say I understand why Aline chose you as the new inquisitor."
"She what?"
I move away, taking down a demon as I kept towards the hill, making Julian run after me.
"Why would she do that when I didn't ask for it? I was not part of this choice! I don't... I can't."
"You could and you most definitely can. Not all inquisitors are bad, Julian. And you know that Mr. Asshorn was just a miner placement while Diego was at home. Now that he's staying as the head of the institute there, we need an inquisitor fast."
Julian makes it to my side, letting out a exasperated sigh.
"Sure. I could lie and decieve for the rest of my life. Well, the one up of that downside is that Emma finds it..." Julian looks up at me as though just remembering that I was there, listening. It was probably not something I wanted or needed to know. I smile.
"Nevermind." but Julian smiles, walking ahead.
"I'll think about it."
"Ah... i'll thank your wife for that then. She must find you more attractive when you speak so intelligently to a group of elderly people. Just like you did when you were only 17."
