Chapter 22- Army of Witches

I managed to get into a strapless black dress and paired it with a blazer and black Louboutin pumps.

I stared at myself in the mirror. I look so much older. I lost my childhood and all the innocence left in me. I was trapped in a war between demons, lost souls, and an abomination of both. I am Lucifer's daughter and I'm in for a fight I shall never forget.

A piece of paper lay on the dressing table and a pen beside it. I sat on the stool and began writing. How long it's been since I've written...

Silently I listen to the stars,
They sing to me,
And the planets dance along.
Rhythmic tunes,
In sync with the beats of my heart.
Delicate fingers strum the strings of my soul,
As my mind wallows in the melody of the universe.
All was in harmony,
All was in order.
In glorious nights like these,
We bask in the sea of dreams,
And lie on the shores of merriment.
Love.
At first,
It embraces you with a taste so sweet and tender,
later,
You sink in the bitterness of regret and grief.
Taste of love and sorrow,
Taste of hate and woe,
But never lose hope in a better tomorrow.
However,
For some,
I cannot promise you this.
For there might be none.

A tear slid down my cheek and I let out a sob. I have never felt this weighed down and useless. I feel cuffed, suffocated and disregarded. The weight of the universe resides in my soul.

There was a knock at the door and I immediately wiped my tears. "Come in." My voice croaked. The door opened and Maeva entered along with Henry. Maeva...

I hugged Henry with all my might and put him down. As for Maeva, I gave her a cold stare. "Why are you giving me such odd glares?" she asked while laughing. "This is no laughing matter, Maeva." I retorted. Her expression went serious and Henry's eyes wandered over to the both of us.

He silently sat on my bed and watched the drama unfold. "Maeva you lied to me." I said in a dangerous tone. "I don't understand." She replied. "Stupidity looks abhorrent on you. Do not try it again." I replied bitterly.

"Maeva you hid the fact that if the witches were to be resurrected they would go after the throne. Not revenge on me or some absurd lie you came up with along with your darling father." I told her. "But what runs through my mind is why the hell would you lie to me?" I added. Her eyes lost color, her face fell lifeless and pale. I looked over to Henry who seemed to have caught on to what was happening. He understood everything.

"Thana. I don't know what to say to you-" she started to say. "How about you just tell me the truth? No lies, no filter. Cold hard ugly truth."

"Witches are dangerously ambitious, Thana. Once a witch hears of their coven's possible victory, success, or land gain, they immediately switch to their conniving and manipulative nature." Henry explained. "No offence, Maeva, but it is the truth."

"None taken." Was her only reply as she pursed her lips.

I stared at Henry. That little bundle of child knew more about this life than any of us combined and still managed to cling to his innocence. But what do you know, Thana? Maybe he's dead inside? Just like you.

"This is no reason to lie to me in such a manner." I snapped. "I apologize, Thana. I'm trying to do the right thing. I beg of you, please, accept my apology." Maeva pleaded.

I thought deeply for a moment, and let my mind grasp the situation bit by bit. Strategically, gaining more enemies would put me in a deeper hole, but having more allies would strengthen my post. However, having allies in which you cannot count on to tell the truth is hazardous.

Then I heard a voice pop into my head. 'Words and promises are seen through and taken seriously by witches, it is an emblem of honor and trust.' Henry's voice echoed through my mind. My eyes went extremely wide as I stared Henry right in the eyes. The little twerp has smile etched from ear to ear.

'Oh my, this is so cool I can hear you! Can you hear me?' I asked and he nodded. 'How come can we communicate through mind messages?' I asked him. 'Being your guardian has its perks, Thana.' He answered. 'Make Maeva pledge her loyalty to you.'

"Maeva. I will accept your apology under one condition." I said. "Anything." She replied to me, her purple eyes gleaming. "You must pledge your loyalty."

Deafening silence took reign and none of us spoke a word. Breaths went heavy, and the stillness of the room became unbearable. Henry's eyes went back and forth between Maeva and I.

For me, Silence was never a good sign. Silence indicated the measure of unassertiveness the other party upholds. Silence is when forming words is worse than not saying a thing. It is when your hesitancy and lack of self assurance take over and render you speechless.

I watched as Maeva fought with herself. Pledging her loyalty to me meant everything she knew was to be shared, no boundaries, no limits, I must know all and in return I shall confide in her too. Pledging her loyalty meant answering to me and , I admit, it is a difficult decision and as per Henry's words, witches do not take this lightly.

Maeva knelt down on one knee. She's ready. "I Maeva, of Diamonne Coven, Pledge my loyalty to thee, Princess Thana Dea." She uttered, and at that exact moment, a cold breeze entered the room and swiveled around us. The air became much thicker, allowing little oxygen into my lungs. Princess Thana Dea. "Well, Thana. I guess you now have a witch army of your own. Seeing as the leader of the Diamonne Coven just pledged loyalty to you. Should I call off the meeting with Aurea Coven, princess?" Erebus's smug hot voice said behind me. Wait, did he just say leader of the Diamonne Coven?

I quickly spun my head to meet Maeva's guilty gaze. "In my defense I was just going to tell you." She said and I mentally shot daggers into her head. "By the way I was announced leader two weeks ago, so it hasn't been long." She added. "Mhmm." I replied while rolling my eyes.

I then turned around to face the devil's sidekick, literally. "And as for you, the more allies I have, the better, so we won't be cancelling anything." I replied. "Oh, and don't ever call me princess." I added while grabbing my purse. "Sure thing, princess."

The infuriating bastard! I almost forgot about my drama with him.

"Ladies first." He motioned for me to go first. "Why? So you could take a better look at my ass?" I retorted. Maeva and Henry snickered. Jeez, Henry's a kid, I shouldn't have said that. He's a thousand year old kid, he'll live. My conscience retorted. True.

"I was trying to be chivalrous, but I guess a reward wouldn't hurt." He winked playfully at me. "I guess chivalry is dead if you expect a reward for it." I replied and walked out the door.

"Eyes anywhere but my derrière. It's disrespectful and makes you seem like a horny teenager." I told him. But still, I felt his eyes linger. "Horny teenager it is then." I said. "The things I have to put up with for you." He groaned and followed me.
