🎧: Outside - Bea Miller
"Paint dries, like my tired eyes.
Rain cries, I don't wanna go
outside."
Chapter 27- 16 going on 17
"You mean to tell me that a 'loyal servant' has been giving you tips on things before they happen and led you to believe I was being held captive, you met Drakos, who ,may I add, is the most powerful warlock that hasn't been seen since the fall. You made allies with both the Diamonne and Aurea covens also your best friend is the leader of the most powerful coven in the world. Oh and how can we forget about both lost souls and daemon attacks and the resurrected-to-be witches?" Lucifer dead-panned as he swirled the whiskey in his glass. "You forgot that she found an ancient manuscript that has been missing for thousands of years." Maeva added and I gave her a 'shut the hell up or you'll end up a rotting corpse in the basement' look.
We were all seated in the living room of Elias's house. It's been over an hour of endless stories and explanations of what happened these past two months and Lucifer is down to his eleventh glass of whiskey. Lucifer gulped down the remaining brown liquid in the cup. "I need another one." Lucifer added and I stood up immediately.
"You are not getting another glass of anything." I snatched the cup from his hands and placed on the coffee table. "What are you afraid of? That I'll get drunk and murder you all? Hate to burst your bubble daughter dearest but I can't get drunk. The alcohol vanishes from my body faster than Hitler's army froze to death in 1941 Russia." He laid back in the chair he was sitting in.
I pursed my lips and sat back in my place. "You cannot simply put your trust in a person like that. Even if they have been right before. This could be your trojan horse." Elias added. He was right. This could have been a pawn to get me to trust the loyal servant and jump blindly into danger.
"But what intrigued me about this loyal servant is that they knew where everything would be and how things would play out. They could either be really well informed or they planned the whole thing for a larger and more devious game." Lucifer added. "This person can't be an outsider, though. This person knows what they're doing extremely well and he knows what gets to you and how to play on your emotions." Maeva said.
"...like someone who's known me for years." I whispered. "Maybe it's someone from my old town." I said and that earned me a couple of odd looks from everyone in the room.
"Before you start judging me, we all know that daemons took over all the high end jobs, money and aristocratic lifestyles. St. Mary was full of snobby rich people. They may have found out about my actual roots and instead of killing me off, they used me to their advantage. How else could anyone have switched Maeva's cards that day to expose my true nature? Who could have had the opportunity to plant the box of wonders in the orphanage for me to open?" I proved my point and everyone seemed to grasp where I was going.
"Thana, could you tell us what the spell your loyal servant told you to perform is?" Lucifer said while massaging his temples. "The Quelling spell." I replied.
"In all my life as a witch I have never heard of the quelling spell." Elias said, intrigued. Maeva stood up and walked to the window. She stared at the city lights that glimmered. "I have, but I only heard it was a myth. Nothing more than a mere legend people whispered about when I was a child." She replied.
