Chapter 28- A Dead Heart PoundingThe soothing sound of church bells chimed through the streets of London. We've been walking around the city all morning and our next destination is the Big Ben.
What's to be said about the marvelous clock that's been proudly standing for almost 150 years? Stories and legends are inspired by the magnificent piece of ancient architecture whose bell has been cracked since 1859.
Legend states, if the bell ever strikes thirteen, the lions of Trafalgar Square will rise amongst the living. Furthermore, Ghost stories haunt the splendid monument. The Big Ben was no ordinary tower, i'll tell you that. For quite some time, it had served as a prison and of course as any other penal institution, prisoners' rotting corpses had plagued the building and tormented souls wandered the halls, claiming the tower as their safe haven. You might be wondering how in the name of hell does this idiot know so much about the Big Ben? Well, books, my children, books are the essence of life.
"What are you day-dreaming about?" I heard Lexus's dreamy voice interrupt my chain of thought. Irrespective of the fact that we weren't on good terms and everything that had to do with us was toxic, we both knew that the attraction we had towards each other was undeniable. It's there. It'll always be there, but nothing will ever happen. This sparked a sort of squeeze in my heart. You deserve better, Thana. You deserve someone who will love you, you won't have to go through the same pain you went through as a child. You'll never feel unloved.
"I don't see why it's any of your business?" I retorted a bit harsher than intended. "Wow, you're mad alright." Lexus mumbled. Lucifer, Elias and Maeva were walking ahead of us. Elias wouldn't stop talking about the history of London, while Lucifer rolled his eyes and seemingly counted to a million to contain his anger, whereas Maeva had her headphones set on the highest volume she could reach. Man, I was almost 15 meters behind them and I could still hear Sum 41's "Screaming Bloody Murder".
I ignored Lexus and fastened my pace to reach the rest. I heard Lexus grunting behind me. We soon reached the Big Ben and saw heaps of people taking pictures in front of it.
"Let's go inside. I'll take you to the top." Elias said. "Wait wait what? We can't go inside." I stated in a confused manner. "Normal people can't go inside. You know how powerful we are, especially how powerful I am in England. My darling, I practically run this city. Mortals have nothing on me." He boasted. "What a proud buffoon." Maeva snapped. "Well, this proud buffoon is taking you somewhere you never would've dreamt of entering. The least you could do is say thank you." Elias angrily stated. I saw something flash in Maeva's eyes. Regret? Dis she regret saying that. Hurt? Maybe.
In a snap of Elias's fingers we were transported to a dark and dainty staircase. Little light entered through small window ports and a chilly breeze swept through the place. "Elias where are we?" I whispered. "As we climb up the stairs, we'll reach the bell of the Big Ben." Elias started ascending the staircase and the others followed. An unsettling feeling coursed through me and whispered of the abhorrent secrets that lay in these halls. My eyes involuntarily closed, and I took a deep breath. I felt a figure stand behind me, the essence of the moving figure brought on a distressing sensation, trouble was brewing. A distant voice drove the figure away before it could inflict any harm. "Thana, wait a minute." Lexus called out. "What do you want?" I bit back.
In a swift motion, Lexus grabbed my arm and pulled me closer so fast that I hit his chest in the process. "What is wrong with you?!" I half whispered- half shouted. I never felt this way about anyone. "No one infuriates and angers me more than you, but youre always on my mind. Your beauty is like a hypnotic trance." He whispered and left me awe-struck. He grabbed my hand and placed it on his chest, where his heart was. "Do you feel anything?" he asked. There was no pulse whatsoever, not a single hammering pulse, nothing. A dead man. I shook my head, indicating no. I looked up to meet Lexuss eyes. Perfect blend of mischief and adorning gray. "Try now." He said. I pressed my palm closer to his chest. I felt a faint beat, pounding ever so lightly. "Ho-w, wh-at?" I stuttered, unable to fathom what Lexus had just done. "You made this stone cold dead heart beat again, Thana. You're this endless dream I want to keep sulking in."
Just as my mind raced with possible replies to what Lexus said, I heard Lucifers voice boom from the top of the tower. "Move it, Thana and Lexus!"
I flinched at the intensity of his voice and Lexus let out a laugh. "I don't expect a reply now. Well talk about it in Elias's house." I dreaded the commending conversation. I mean, what was I supposed to say? My feelings are all over the place. I can't say Im not attracted to him and I can't say I don't like to be around him, but I don't know how to put my feelings into words without them feeling foreign to my mouth. I've never known such a feeling. I can never say Ive been loved or cared about in such a manner. I gave Lexus a small smile and we both went up the stairs

"This is so tiring, what the fuck." I panted as I reached the last stair step. Elias, Maeva, Lucifer and Lexus stood in a single file, facing me, with bored looks on their faces. "Mortals." Elias rolled his eyes. "MorTaLS." I mocked Elias in a British accent. Elias ignored me and ventured on to where the bell proudly hung. The wind was frigid. You could hear the music that the wind made as it gushed through the hollow building. I stepped closer examining the bell. It was quite large, but extremely beautiful. The more I stared at it, the more I noticed the crack that tainted the striking bell. However, this flaw somehow magnified its exquisiteness remarkably.
"Do you know the actual story behind the bell crack?" Elias asked and Maeva and I shook our heads. Lucifer stayed silent and seemed uninterested whereas Lexus's eyes held an all too familiar gleam of mischievousness. "Why do you look like youre the one who cracked the damn bell?" I queried. "Because I did." Lexus smiled roguishly. Oh boy, here comes the current flowing.
"Have a seat and let me tell you about it." Lexus said and with a snap of his fingers a table and chairs appeared. "You can do magic?" I pondered out loud. "Only Lexus and I have the ability to perform magic. Lexus's ability to do magic is limited." Lucifer intervened. Lucifer was first to take a seat at the table and stretch his legs on it. "Have a seat." He said to us and so we did. Let's see what more secrets Lexus has to reveal.
