🎧: Only - RY XChapter 36- A Knife, A Rope, A Body
As I walked up the stairs to my quarters, the strong smell of blood surrounded me. I felt dizzy and nauseous.
"Man, I need a bath." I whispered to myself as I entered my room and headed straight for the bathroom. I peeled the blood-soaked dress off me, stepping into the shower.
I switched the hot water on and let it fall over my aching frame. My eyes met the scar on my wrist and I sighed. "Why does this keep happening to me? Why am I always the one to get all the shit?" I sobbed. My chest was heaving as I let out the tears I've been holding back. "I'm just so tired..." I whispered, letting my back slide against the wall of the shower. I tightly hugged my knees and cried further. There's only so much I can take.
Hopeless future, deadly romance, target for murder, heiress of the realm of hell... This is too much for a 17 year old to handle. I let out a scream of pain. Inner pain. I let out a second scream. Conflicting choices and agony.
You must stay strong. You must face all your demons. There are many. My mind tried to reassure me, and I just laid numb on the tiled floor.
Steam clouded my surroundings, but I couldn't even bring myself to turn the water off. I felt my lungs constrict and my vision grow blurry. I hope I die.
I suddenly heard a thud from the bedroom. I shouldn't have screamed.
I wish I'd die before anyone got the chance to save me. Soon enough, I saw a dark figure approaching me. Please be the reaper.
"You're not dying on me, T. I love you too much to let you go." He cried. Is a man crying for me? I couldn't identify the voice for some reason, but it was extremely familiar. "Le-ave, le-t me d-ie." I managed to sputter. The man stayed silent. He held me in his arms and wrapped a towel around me. I started closing my eyes. "Don't you dare close those beautiful blue eyes." He whispered.
Because of the desperation in his voice I fought with my eyes to keep them open. To be able to focus. I was hit with cold air as soon as he carried me into the bedroom. Air. Then I saw him. It was Lexus. He was wearing a black turtle neck paired with dark blue jeans.
He placed me on the bed and pulled the covers on me to keep me warm. I felt myself regain strength. "I think you were losing oxygen in there. Did you see how much steam there was?!" Lexus scolded me. I felt too weak to reply to him. I closed my eyes. "I need to be alone." I whispered weakly.
I felt his lips slightly graze my forehead before planting a kiss. "I'm sorry for the way I acted tonight. We'll speak tomorrow." Lexus stated and exited the room. Lexus's scent invaded my senses and bit by bit, my eyes fell shut.

I was being watched. Even while occupied in my dreams, I felt it. Maybe I was being paranoid? That's mostly why I didn't check. But, to be frank, I was too frightened to check.
A breeze of cold fresh air swirled in the room. Then again, there were no open windows last night...
I was bothered, scared and cold. Uneasiness crept into my heart, and an unsettling feeling found its way to the pit of my stomach. I know it's something bad, but I just want to pause all of this and take a long, deep breath. If only there was a pause button.
I mentally prepped myself for whatever it is I was now going to witness. It's nothing I can't handle...
I opened my eyes and let out an ear-splitting shriek. The horror before my eyes petrified me. "GUARDS!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I stared in the eyes of the body suspended above me. Icy dead blue eyes stared right back at me. Never mind someone helping me.
I jumped out of bed and grabbed the knife I hide under my mattress. You never know what type of danger might be lurking. I immediately cut the rope and the body fell flat on the bed. I looked down at my body to see that I'm just in a towel. I hurried to the closet and slipped a silk robe on and exited the room, but I bumped into a hard rock chest in the process.
"Thana! I came to see what's happening. I heard you screaming for help." A worried Jacoby looked at me. "What happened?! Were you attacked?" He frantically asked. "No! Not me. There was a body suspended over my bed! A DEAD ONE!" I explained in a distraught manner. "Calm down, calm down." He cooed and directly entered the room.
"Uh, Thana. There's no body in here." Jacoby stated. My eyes turned huge as I went in to take a look myself. It was true. There was nothing there.
"B-but I don't understand. There was a body there and I cut it down with a knife!" I sputtered in disbelief. Who could have entered my room this fast and dragged a fucking body without me seeing them?
I stared at the bed intently. Studying it for any signs of a loose end or a missing piece that would prove I haven't gone mad. And that's when I found a single piece of bloodied rope. "Jacoby! Look! It's a piece of the rope the body was hung with." I exclaimed and held it in the air triumphantly.
Jacoby took the piece of rope from my hand and looked at it carefully. "Thana, I think you might need to call the palace guards and everyone in here. We need to start laying out suspects. The lost souls and daemons have someone on the inside I'm sure of it." Jacoby told me as his eyes were still focused on the object in his possession.
Then I remembered the letter I got from my 'Loyal Servant' yesterday morning. The last part clearly stated:
'Careful darling, because tonight, you never know who might be hanging over your head, watching.'
"Oh fuck." Was all I muttered before another scream sounded from downstairs. Well, he/she weren't kidding when they said they have come to terrorize.
Jacoby and I gave each other a knowing look and ran down to the kitchen like maniacs. I honestly thought I was going to trip and fall to my end. Not that I mind. The moment I entered the Kitchen I saw the face of the maid was pale. She almost turned blue. "Are you even breathing?!" I shouted as I ran to her. "He-he they were I-" and she fainted.
