Chapter 33- Negotiations and the Valley of Death
I slammed my palm on Lucifer's desk. "What you ask of me is unacceptable!" I opposed Jacoby's ridiculous idea. "Do you even hear yourself?!" I exclaimed loudly.
"Well, considering how high your damn voice is, i'm surprised I can even hear my inner thoughts." Jacoby hissed. "You're asking me to give you HALF OF MY LANDS!" I shouted. "Dial it down!" He replied. How dare he insult me in my own realm!
"Why should I even accept your proposal? What do I benefit from it?" I arched an eye-brow showing him how idiotic his proposal is. "It's either we settle in a democratic way, aka my way, or we let war and bloodshed settle it." He demanded. Idiotic little monstrous asshole. "You're willing to create chaos in the in-between, hell and the mortal world, just to get a petty crown that you know very damn well you'll never have?" I glared at him.
"The end justifies the means." He shrugged. "You good for nothing piece of filth! Lucifer and I may be running hell, but morals and ethics still apply! Have you never learned that even the devil has his own religion and set of rules? How else would everything be in order?!" I shot at him. The room was getting incredibly stuffy and tense.
Jacoby's patience was clearly wearing thin. Not that he has the right to get mad. The illogical bullshit he's asking me to condone is just plain buffoonery. "Son, you must've lost your mind." I sassed and sat back in my chair. Jacoby mocked me and rolled his eyes. "We've been at it for almost 3 hours and we still haven't gotten to an agreement."
"Make your demands more cogent and eloquent, then negotiate with me. Otherwise, leave the room and never let me see your pathetic contemptible face again." I spat. "We will have another round of negotiations tomorrow, oh and don't forget to be ready by 8pm tonight." He winked. Damn this guy changes moods faster than a harlot changes men. "What's there at 8?" I eyed him suspiciously.
"Well, since none of you graciously threw a welcome party for me, I threw one for myself." He said proudly. Okay, now that's just plain sad.
"I- you- In my castle?!" I opposed. "Wear something sexy." He eyed my body and licked his lips. I sneered at his degrading comment. Jacoby didn't even bother saying a word and left the room.
My head was unquestionably pounding with pain. I stared at the map in front of me. The in-between was an assuredly spacious land, regardless of the fact that it was sandwiched in an alternate dimension between the mortal world and hell.
The in-between was divided into many areas. There was of course, The Royal Hill, where the castle sat and only maids and servants of the castle were allowed to reside apart from a couple of noblemen and Lucifer. There was also an elite village at the bottom of the hill where most of the noble and rich supernatural beings lived. Its name was Bloods-worth District.
There were also the Enchanted Woods, Demon's Quarter, mostly where the demons lived and it was situated between Slaughter Sea and Witch's Vale. Witch's Vale was crawling with warlocks and witches, but you could find some Jinns and Nephilim there as well. Moreover, there was the infamous Hollowhorn ghost-town. Hollowhorn was not always a ghost-town though, it was once the district of the Lost Souls and Daemons before they were banished from the in-between. It was filled with abandoned Chateaus and mansions. What annoyed me most during my negotiation with Prince Jacoby was that he was keen on wanting this area and I was sure to safe-guard it when I noticed his increased interest of his in this ghost town.
I heard an urgent knock on the door as I was staring at the map. "Come in." I said. I swear if this is Lexus I'm castrating that motherfucker and feeding his balls to my hellhounds. The door opened to reveal Maeva.
"Maeva! Hey, I haven't been seeing you around much. I could've really used your support while welcoming the usurper to the castle." I hugged her while saying. "The coven needed me. I had to go. I'm sorry I wasn't there, T." She stated sadly.
"So, what brings you here?" I asked as I sat back down. "I came to see how the negotiations are going." She asked and sat down. "This is worse than I had expected! He wants Demon's Quarter, Hollowhorn and access to Slaughter Sea, also the Enchanted Woods." I told her. Maeva's face paled. "He wants half the lands?! That bastard! And in return for what?" She queried.
Maeva reached out to drink tea from the untouched teacup in front of her. "Wait! Don't drink that." I stopped her before the cup touched her lips. "I had that poisoned, it would've made him sleep for two days, but somehow I think he suspected it and didn't drink from the cup." I explained to her. Maeva threw her head back laughing. "You're hilarious" She said between laughs. "He's a Tenebris, T. He can smell poison a mile away." She told me. "That explains." I grumbled.
Maeva took a look at the map. "Thana, the moment I walked into this room, I felt intense magic coat the air." She told me. "What do you mean?" I replied. She stood up and took a clearer look at the map. "Thana... I think this map is enchanted." She explained.
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "carminibusque hostibus prodere latet notoria malorum." She chanted in latin.
Everything around us went immobile. Nothing but the warm essence of magic surrounded us. I looked at the map again, and within Hollowhorn surfaced another area named the Valley of Death.
"The Valley of Death." Maeva inhaled a sharp breath as the words left my mouth. "The Valley of Death is supposed to be a myth... I don't under-stand." She stuttered in bewilderment. "This place is the site of the barrier between the Land of Shadows and the in-between." She explained. "That explains why he'd been so keen on having this area." I told her.
"We need to go somewhere to finally get some damn answers." Maeva stated angrily. "Where?"
"We're going to a place no one knows existed. Deep within Witch's Vale there is the Fountain of Truth. To be able to get there, we need to find the righteous path that can only be unlocked by the blood of Lucifer on an amethyst stone, but since you are of his blood, you can open it as well." She explained to me and grabbed her coat. "I need to change! I can't go out in this." I told her and she turned to me. "That can be arranged."
Maeva held my hands and performed a spell. After an extremely nauseating feeling, I saw that Maeva had changed my clothes into black pants and a turtleneck. "Thanks, M." I panted. Man that spell made me tired. "Let's go." She said. "Maeva, we have to be back before 8. Our royal pain is throwing a party for himself." I rolled my eyes and Maeva snorted.
