Chapter 32- Row, Row, Row Your Boat, gently down the Styx
Ethereal blue waters ran under me as a hooded man rowed the small wooden boat. The air was warm and cozy. A faint tang of cotton candy and bubble-gum assaulted my tongue as I opened my mouth to speak with the hooded figure.
The moment the staggering sweet essence entered my mouth, I knew I was in a dream or a form of hallucination. Although I was now aware of my sulking state of mind, I couldn't help keep curiosity at bay. "Where are we?" I asked the figure facing me. The figure did not reply, keeping steady movements in rowing. I settled on staying silent and refraining from angering the hooded man.
A badgering feeling drummed at my mind, and it was, in fact, quite alarming. Normally, in a dream, I would be in control of what happens, but here, I'm not even in control of something as simple as the motion of the boat. The feeling of being trapped surfaced in my chest and it grew heavy with every passing row. Soon, we reached a place where there were two paths to be taken. The hooded man stopped the boat and awaited an answer. Was he asking me where to go?
I felt a strong pull to both paths. An enigmatic hunch found its way to my guts and I immediately pointed my hand to the path on the left.
The man bowed down his head and took the path on the left. The deeper we went down the delphic trail, the more the flamboyant scintillating scenery was replaced by a much darker one.
The atmosphere surrounding me had turned oddly crisp. A shiver ran down my spine. The feeling of fear crept disturbingly into my soul, taking residence in it, replacing the warmth. Harrowing bloody hills made their presence prominent. A grunt from the hooded figure startled me.
A distant, far-off sound had given me the impression of a call to death. The alluring melody was marvelous to the ears. Unlike anything I've heard before. A powerful feel erupted from the symphony, but somehow it didn't have the desired effect on me. 'The Siren's Song.' I identified. Enticement coated the bewitching song. It called sailors and all who dare exploit the grounds of sirens to their doom. The beguiling tune of death.
The calm bright waters turned murky, and I could've sworn I saw a white ghost-like figure, almost like a soul, circling the boat. More and more of these ghost-like figures started appearing, and while doing so, they attacked the boat. Although I was in grave danger, I wasn't the slightest bit scared. I felt so much power course through me. The man before me shifted in the boat and I heard him utter frightening words. Humming to the tune of row row row your boat. "Row row row your boat gently down the styx, merrily merrily merrily, torture the souls beneath." I saw his white shimmering teeth curve into a blood-curdling smile. "Did you just say Styx?" I asked horrified. "You asked me where you were, am I not right?" He maliciously stated. "Yes..., but I thought the river Styx was only in Greek mythology, nothing to do with Lucifer or Catholic history." I said absentmindedly. "What a fool! This is a dream, Thana." He roared. "Do not raise your voice at me. This is a dream, I know..." then it hit me. "The river Styx symbolizes hell in this case?" It was more of a rhetorical question. The figure did not reply. I smiled knowingly. "If this is a symbol of hell, then it is under my control , I am, after all, the heir to hell." I told him. Again, the hooded figure did not utter a single phrase. Silence.
I stood up in a composed manner and raised my palm, indicating the word stop. Accompanying this action, my voice sliced through the nippy air, causing every living form to halt. "Enough." I commanded loudly.
