The nurse finishes their check up for Amy and Red. They pull the holograms onto the clipboard, transferring the data.
"Amy, despite all your injuries, this is actually the healthiest you've been. It seems like your other personalities are healthy too," the nurse tells Amy.
"That's great!" Amy grins. "I'm actually really glad..."
"Me too, good job sis," Red smiles at her and Amy smiles back.
"I have just one more test to run. I'm sure you're familiar with it. It's the test for the stability of your personalities," the nurse holds up the familiar looking bandage.
"Yeah, of course," Amy holds out her arm and the nurse comes over. They gently wipe off the area that the bandage goes on. They put it on, and it hooks up with their clipboard.
Jamil?
What?
Was that Jamil?
You're delusional girl, it's just a nurse-
That is reminding you of Jamil. And you say you don't like him like that.
I don't! Leave me alone!
Keep denying it if you want...it's gonna come back and haunt you.
I don't even think he's available so chill all of you.
Amy grumbles in annoyance. Despite just fighting such a hard battle, the three of them are as lively as ever.
"Wow! This is first time you've been stable!" The nurse looks surprised.
"Wait, really?" Amy looks confused.
"Yeah! It's really cool, good job Amy!" The nurse smiles kindly, reminding Amy of a certain brown-haired, glasses-wearing, cute nerd.
"Thanks," Amy smiles in formality, she slumps into her hospital bed as the nurse leaves. Red chuckles at Amy.
"What's wrong?" Red questions, eyebrow raised.
"Nothing. Just the fact that my personalities just absolutely love talking about Jamil. It's such a pain," Amy huffs, her arms crossed.
"They're literally you Amy. You know it's okay to like someone right?" Red holds back laughter. "It doesn't make you any less of a mage, in fact, it makes you a better mage."
"Yeah, that despite everything I can still love blah blah blah," Amy's hand moves as though it was talking. "But you know how I am when I see someone who looks attractive...Jamil just caught my eye 'cause he's cute. Nothing more. It's not like he sees me beyond Owen's coach."
"Someone sounds salty..." Red grins and Amy throws him a glare. "You really do, it's so obvious."
"Do I really?" Amy groans. "My gosh, what if I actually do like him? Oh no..."
"You won't know for sure until you evaluate how you behave around him," Red points out. "But you can't 'cause he's back at school isn't he?"
"Damn, you're right," Amy rubs her chin in thought. "Well, I guess I'll have to wait until the summer-oh shoot! I've gotta teach again in two days!"
"Pfft," Red bursts into laughter. "Then you might want to hurry up and heal."
"No kidding!" Amy closes her eyes, her fists tightening. "C'mon self! Heal! Heal faster!" All the while, Red is laughing his head off, holding onto his stomach because it hurt.
"Uhhh, what the hell are you doing?" Scott questions as he comes inside the room with Quill.
"Trying to heal faster, I have to teach in two days!" Amy answers with one eye open. Red continues to laugh, drying his tears.
"Only Amy," Scott rolls his eyes as Quill joins in on the laughter.
Amy suddenly remembers something, her eyes wide open as she touches her finger for her ring then her neck. She sighs in relief when the cool feeling of the emerald, fairy necklace floods her finger. Amy closes her eyes and feels a wave of calm wash over.
"Aw," Quill gushes. "How cute."
Amy jolts out of the feeling and looks at Quill who's watching her with a knowing look in her brown eyes.
"I swear on my magic if you say something about it, I am so done," Amy warns.
"Yeah, that's not really a threat," Scott falls onto one of the seats. "So feel free Quill."
"I'm not," Quill shakes her head. "But it's still really cute you know."
"He's really cute," Amy sighs to herself. She looks around and it seems like no one heard her say anything. "No. I don't like him like that."
Keep telling yourself that. Have fun.
Shut up. All of you.
Hey, you were quick to accept that you liked Aster. Why are these feelings any different?
Not the time. We have to heal so I can go teach.
"Hey...do you think Sensei's gonna ever stop his search for Hiromi?" Scott questions randomly. They all look at him.
"I get what you mean...what if she's dead...? And when Sensei finds out..." Red's voice trails off.
"But what about the baby? I mean, it's probably our age now but you know what I mean..." Quill brings up.
"He's going to be so much more heartbroken," Amy looks down at the necklace.
"Spend time with your loved ones while you have them," Ku reminded them over and over.
"He already is," Quill points out. "He just doesn't show it."
"He was going to have a family but then whoosh, it was all taken away in less than five flicks," Scott pushes up his glasses with his middle finger.
"Yeah...it's really sad," Red agrees. "I can't imagine how he must've felt then...but he still took care of us...that takes strength."
All of them nod their head in agreement.
"Also, something else I've heard," Scott takes a deep breath. "We're gonna meet a new mage that just recently joined forces. He's actually my age, so he's underage but ya know, he must've been dragged in too."
"A new dude?" Red questions. "Why are we meeting him? I don't mind, I'm just wondering..."
"I don't really know. The Magic Council said he could help Sensei with his search for Hiromi and their baby," Scott shrugs. "Sensei doesn't know yet but yeah."
"Then that's great!" Quill looks excited.
"What's the name?" Amy asks.
"His name is Hiro," Scott announces.
--
"You freaked out didn't you?" Ava guesses as Alex comes running out of Urana's room.
Alex nods violently and hugs Ava. He squeezes her as she squeezes him too. "I couldn't..." his voice is soft. "Urana...she's gonna be the same way I was..."
"You don't have to talk if you can't," Ava reminds him. "No one wants you to sacrifice your mental health."
Alex breaks the hug and looks her in the eye. "It's just scary because I know what Urana's feeling...and to see one of my friends go through that...I don't want her to go through that. I can't even imagine what it's like to have your parent hold a gun to you...how could they fucking do that to her?!"
"Then it's a good thing we're here for her," Ava smiles softly. Her smile wipes away at the mention of the gun. "No one should have to go through shit like that...not you, not Urana, not anyone. And honestly, I have no idea why the hell they would do that. Water magic isn't even that scary but even if it was fire...it wouldn't justify the gun."
Alex nods, a small smile on his face. "Thank you...for calming me down. I just...I think I need to give myself some space before talking to Urana about it."
"No problemo, that sounds like a plan. Don't forget to be your own light."
