here's what we got lads: from this source, we can infer that germany was being poorly governed in november 1918 from the mention of germans starving by jans smuts. germany was a very prosperous country at this time, so the news of germans dying of starvation was very shocking. we can also infer that germany was being governed extremely poorly by smuts' use of the phrase "lies in ruins" which only solidified the fact that due to the way the country was being run, germany fell to pieces after the great war, and this demise was even being spotted amongst foreigners.
