Everyone felt that the place they were temporarily staying in was great. There had still been no attacks but there had been a few human sightings not far from the apes. The humans didn't know where the apes were hiding, at least that's what the apes thought. The population had definitely increased, hundreds of apes now lived in the caves.

It was really early in the morning, something like 4:30am to 5:00am and Cornelius couldn't sleep. So he wondered around the royal family's 'room' and went to look for his aunt, (Y/N). He looked around the caves filled with sleeping apes but couldn't find her anywhere. Then he heard light bird sounds from just outside the entrance. He knew he wasn't allowed outside without anyone with him but he couldn't resist the temptation of the gorgeous birds.

So, Cornelius quietly made his way towards the calls. He ran/crawled outside the caves and went into the forest. As he past the wooden wall that protected their home, he hesitated. He looked around and didn't know where to go. Then he saw a bird flying in the air above him, it flew further away from the wall, so he followed it. He continued to watch the bird in amazement as he made his way through the forest.

Eventually, the bird flew away and was out of Cornelius' sight. Cornelius looked around the forest once more to find his way back, but he couldn't see the wall. All he could see was trees, bushes and grass. He started to worry. Which way should he go? This way, that way, he was so confused.

Then he heard the sound of rustling leaves. He turned his head towards the sound and froze, a man with a gun pointing directly at Cornelius was right in front of him.

"Hey, little vermin. What are you doing out here all alone?" He asked tauntingly with an evil smirk. Cornelius started to whimper as he backed up against a tree. "Don't worry, I'll make your death swift you little-" He was cut off by (Y/N) flying into his left side and being pulled down the hill. Yells and grunts were heard from the man and the powerful winged woman. Punches were thrown until a gun went off. Then after another few seconds, the fighting stopped.

(Y/N) stood up and looked down at the man she killed. The finishing blow was a slice on his neck from her dagger. (Y/N) held her right side, the bullet had gone through her skin and it will definitely need some time to heal and leave a nasty scar. But it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. She quickly turned to Cornelius.

"Cornelius! Oh my god, come here!" Cornelius wasted no time in ran over to (Y/N) and holding her close. (Y/N) returned the gesture as she carried the baby ape away from the corpse.  Once they were unable to see the dead man, (Y/N) flew up into a tree and placed Cornelius in her lap with him facing her.

"Why did you come out here? You know you're not allowed!" She signed.

"Got no sleep. Wanted you." Cornelius signed back while looking down in guilt. (Y/N) couldn't help but give a sad smile.

"I understand. But you should have waited for me or gotten someone to come with you." Cornelius nodded in understanding. "Now, how about we go back home. I bet your parents are worried sick." Cornelius nodded again. (Y/N) held her arms out for him. She stood up and held him as she grunted in pain and tried to hide it.

They flew back to the caves and landed at the entrance. As they walked, they saw apes close in on them in a defensive stance. "Hey guys, just me." (Y/N) said as she walked out of the shadows and into the view of the apes. They stood down, glad that it wasn't a soldier who found them. Caesar made his way through the group of apes and walked up to (Y/N) and Cornelius. He looked to his sister for answers. "He went for a walk and ran into a soldier. I found him and brought him back, he's fine." She signed.

"But what about the gun sound?" Caesar asked.

"It didn't get Cornelius. Don't worry, the soldier is dead."

"What about you?

"Just a scratch. It's nothing."

"I'll decide if it's nothing. Come back to the cave and show me." Caesar signed firmly. (Y/N) rolled her eyes at how protective Caesar was being but still nodded. She walked with Cornelius back up to their cave. Caesar could see the blood seeping through her makeshift top. And he knew he would need to have a talk with Cornelius later on.
