Chapter 44: One Year Later

It was different. So many things had happened to the apes. The loss of many poor souls, the loss of their queen, their eldest prince and most importantly, their king. Caesar had done so much for the apes. He had freed them from their capturers, he had unlocked their full potential, he had given them sanctuary. And through the massive war between apes and humans, he never gave up on them. He sacrificed his life for these apes, his family. The ape community would never be the same again, but they would continue on. That's what Caesar would have wanted.

It had been around a year since the apes had escaped. Structures had been built, especially in the trees. Homes, watch stations, weapons had also been built. It was just like in their previous homes, just in a different place. Caesar's ashes were scattered across the lake by (Y/N). She flew across the lake with Caesar's ashes in a massive leaf from the forest.

And just like Caesar asked, (Y/N) had become a temporary leader until Cornelius was old enough to take over. The apes trusted her, obviously not as much as Caesar, but she understood that. They knew she was trustworthy, a good fighter, good heart, good spirit and a good person overall. And gradually, the apes got closer to her. Maurice and Rocket are as close to (Y/N) as they were to Caesar. They encourage her when she's under pressure. And thanks to them, she's rarely pressured.

Absolutely no sightings of other humans but the apes were still cautious. Anyone is allowed to go anywhere they want as long as they are in the hills and with someone. Cornelius and his friends loved to swing through the trees all across the hills. It was their favourite thing to do. They would often do this to get their minds off of things. Sometimes they would even invite Nova to play with them.

The young apes swung through forest with Nova running with them just below. She found it hard to keep up because she wasn't as fast as the apes. Since it was warmer at their new home, she didn't need all the clothes that she had when they were in the snow. So instead, all she wears is what the apes found her in. As she ran, the apes slowly past her and soon they were nowhere in sight. Nova wished she was fast, or to at least be able to climb fast like the apes. She stopped to catch her breath. 

She looked around to see if anyone was near her. No one. Nova knew if she didn't find Cornelius again, she would have to go back to the main area where everyone was. She wasn't entirely familiar with the new home yet. That also was her problem, she wasn't sure how to get back. All Nova could think of was to walk back the way she came. 

While Nova walked back, she heard birds whistle and she watched as they flew over the trees. Then a quiet rustle came from a bush beside her. Nova froze and stared at the bush. Her heart was beating so loud she could feel it in her ears. Nova slowly backed away from the bush before her back hit against a tree. 

After a few seconds, a deer walked out of the bush and stared back at Nova. Nova let out a quick sigh of relief. The deer looked away and ran off. Nova watched the deer run off before she continued in the direction she was walking in before. 

Nova walked for a minute or two before stopping dead in her tracks when she heard a loud screech from where she found the deer. She turned around and saw nothing. But after a few seconds, a dark grey wolf walked out of the shadows. The eyes seemed red like (Y/N)'s to Nova, who was frozen with fear. The wolf spotted the 13 year old girl and slowly trotted faster. He began to pick up his pace which made Nova snap out of her trance. The girl turned around and ran through the forest. The wolf gained up on her and just about got her before he was pushed to the ground. He let out a yelp before going silent. Nova sat on the ground with her head in her knees, shaking. 

"Nova! Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" A gentle but frantic woman's voice asked. Nova looked up and saw (Y/N) with a worried expression on her face. 

Nova shook her head and signed, "just scared me. He killed a deer before he started chasing me." (Y/N) nodded and gave Nova a hug. Nova hugged back still shaking a little. They released the hug and stood up. Rocket came up to them. 

"Is the girl okay?" He asked. 

"Just shocked." (Y/N) replied. A couple other apes stood with them. "Take Nova back to the others. Tell Maurice what happened. I just need to get cleaned up." The two apes nodded and walked with Nova back to main area. That just left Rocket and (Y/N). 

"Cleaned up? Did you get hurt?" Rocket asked (Y/N). 

"I just didn't want Nova to worry." (Y/N) signed before showing Rocket the mild bite mark the wolf made on her left arm. Rocket's eyes widened. Before Rocket could freak out (Y/N) signed, "I'm fine! Just needs a clean and it'll be fine." Rocket calmed down. "We'll have the wolf for dinner." (Y/N) signed. "Go look for that deer the wolf killed in the forest. There must of been others, they travel in groups." Rocket nodded and called a few apes over to get the wolf, find the dead deer and go hunt some others. (Y/N) went to go clean up her wound.

Hey guys! Quick question: 

Are there any scenarios you want to be in the story? Like one-shot kind of things?

AND I am not entirely sure if wolves meat is edible! I searched it up and I was a little confused because it said it is but then it said it isn't. But just pretend for the story. I also searched if wolves can have rabies. The answer is not likely so I will not put it in the story.
