Chapter 35: Disagreement

Everyone was just about to leave the big house. Maurice, Caesar and Bad Ape were still inside while the others waiting for them. The little girl, who (Y/N) had thought should be named Nova, looked at the beautiful pink flower trees. Winter cherries was what they were called. 

Nova looked at the flowers with a smile on her face. Luca saw the little girl and walked up to her. She turned to face him, her smile went away. Luca stood in front of her and reached up at the pink flowers and pulled one off the tree. He took it off the branch and placed it behind Nova's left ear. Nova's smile came back, making Luca smile as well. 

(Y/N) watched them as she stood by one of the horses, she also shared their smile. Then they heard Caesar and Maurice walking away from the house and Luca went back to his horse. (Y/N) walked over to Caesar as he and Maurice looked back to the house. Bad Ape came walking towards with them with another coat. How many coats does he need? This time, it had no sleeves and he was also wearing a beanie. He looked to the others and gave a cheeky smile with a thumbs up. 

They started their journey towards the border. To make sure the soldiers didn't see any of them, (Y/N) rode the same horse as Caesar so she couldn't be seen. They traveled through snowy mountains and flat ground. While they trotted through the snow, Caesar took a drink of water and saw the little girl, Nova, watching him again. 

"Thirsty." Maurice signed twice. "Thirsty." Caesar then looked to Nova. 

"Thirsty," she signed. Caesar handed the bottle over to her and she gave him a nod saying "thanks". (Y/N) put her hand on Caesar's shoulder and smiled at him. 

They eventually made it to a hill above the soldiers camp. The Border. Caesar looked through the binoculars, but he couldn't see very clearly. 

"Luca, come. Let's go closer." He said. Luca nodded and followed Caesar. 

"Keep them safe." Caesar said to Rocket and (Y/N). Caesar and Luca used the binoculars to see what the soldiers were doing. Some were using weapons to hit large sticks that stuck out of the ground, forming the letter 'X'. 

"What are they doing?" Luca asked. 

"I don't know." Caesar replied. Luca got Caesar to look in another direction. 

"What's that? A patrol?" He asked. Caesar looked down and saw two horses tied up. 

"I don't see riders." He said. 

Then the binoculars were hit out of his hand by someone. A soldier held a gun up to Caesar's head but before he could shoot, Luca pulled Caesar out of the way and jumped onto the soldier. Two more soldiers came running up to Caesar and pointed their guns at him. 

"Hold it!" They yelled. Caesar froze. They were knocked off their feet by Rocket and (Y/N). 

"We saw them coming!" Rocket signed. The three of them looked to Luca as he got off the soldier. He winced as he pulled a small knife that connected to the soldier's gun out of his chest. He rolled onto his back as the three others ran over to help him. 

They helped Luca as they walked back up the hill to the others. They laid Luca down and they all surrounded him. Caesar held his head as Luca signed to him. 

"At least this time...I was able to protect you." Nova sat on the other side of Luca's head. She cried as she watched the gorilla, who although was dying, still had his sweet smile on his face. She took the flower away from her ear and put it behind Luca's right ear. Luca held his smile until it slowly left his face as he slowly drifted away. Maurice gently pulled Nova back next to him. She continued to quietly cry. (Y/N) released angry tears while showing an angry face. Hatred towards the humans for killing one of her best friends. 

"Caesar..." Maurice signed, getting Caesar's attention. "This must stop. It's not too late to join the other apes." 

"We cannot turn back!" Rocket argued. "Luca gave his life!" (Y/N) nodded. 

"I agree. Those humans have done unspeakable things." She added. 

"Please...!" Maurice begged Caesar not too. Caesar looked to Luca one last time. 

"They must pay." He said. Maurice laid a hand on Caesar's arm. 

"Now..." He signed, "you sound like Koba." Caesar began to breathe heavily. 

"It was a mistake bringing you all." He snarled. "This is my fight. I will finish this alone." He got up and said, "Go. Now. Join the others." The rest of them got up and tried to stop him. Rocket hooted with his hand extended but Caesar kept walking. 

"Caesar, please!" (Y/N) called as she landed in front of him, making him stop for a second. 

"(Y/N), leave now." Caesar argued as he tried to walk around her but she continued to stay in front of him. 

"You are not going alone." She said, stopping him completely. "I agree with you, the humans deserve to pay. But you cannot do it by yourself. That's why I'm coming with you." Caesar looked at (Y/N) in the eyes and sighed, knowing very well that he wouldn't be able to change his stubborn sister's mind. So he agreed to let her come with him. 

They made their way down the mountain and soon it was dark. They walked over to where they saw the giant 'X's earlier. It was horrific. Apes were tied up with cuts and blood covering their bodies, all dead. They walked past all of them and kept walking until they got to the edge of the cliff. They both looked over and saw the rest of the apes captured in a massive cage. A zoo. 

"I thought they made it out!" (Y/N) signed. Caesar dropped to his knees while (Y/N) just stood with her hand over her mouth, shocked. Then they heard gasping from behind them. They turned around to see it was Spear. Tied up to the wooden 'X', barely alive. They dropped their guns and ran over to him. 

"Go check if any others are alive!" Caesar signed as he undid Spear's ropes. (Y/N) nodded than ran over to other apes. 

Caesar rested Spear against the sticks. "What happened?" He asked in a whisper. 

"They came out of nowhere..." Spear signed. "Attacked us. We thought they would kill us all...but the Colonel stopped them! There was madness in his eyes! He said they would use us, before we died! And they brought us all here!" He started coughing. 

"Use you?" Caesar asked. 

"They've been forcing us to work!" 

"What... What kind of work?" Spear slowly closed his eyes and fell to his right side on the ground and he was officially gone. 

"Wait! My little son. Is he here?" Caesar desperately asked. Then he looked up to (Y/N) who was helping another ape. But someone held a gun to her head behind her. "(Y/N)!!!" He screamed but was quickly knocked out, along with his sister.
