Pepper's POV
I sat on our bed, head hurting from all the crying. Tony never came back. We just got fucking engaged and then he had to go and run off with those wizard portal people! I collapse on the bed and stare at the ceiling. I was numb. Would you be surprised if I told you I drank like half of Tony's alcohol? The silence was defining. I honestly missed Tony's snarky comments and stupid questions. I miss him.
"Ms. Potts?" FRIDAY startled me. I immediately sat up and wiped my tears away. That was before I realized that she was an A.I and not a real person that I thought would walk through the door. Even she sounded sad.
"Uh. Yes, FRIDAY?" I answer.
"A few things, ma'm. One, there has been activity at the Avenger's warehouse. A new person has entered and broke through my security." FRIDAY alerts. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. Who could it be? It couldn't be Tony. FRIDAY knows his DNA.
"Are they a threat?" I ask.
"They appear to be talking with the rest of the team. Her DNA is not human but Kree. But, she calls herself human. She can be dangerous but poses no threat at the moment." FRIDAY explains. She? Kree?
"As long at Steve and the others have it handled I'm not going to worry about it." I mumble loudly.
"Yes, ma'm"
Ever since I accepted that Tony was...gone. My energy levels are low, according to FRIDAY. She thinks its depression, a stage of grief.
FRIDAY's POV
She has been stuck in the depression stage for a while. I'm afraid that she might be diagnosed with it. Also, this pain has caused her brain to be foggy. This is going to risk the whole Stark company. She mopes around the house all day and refuses to do work because every time she sees something that says 'stark' on it, or someone mentions his name, she breaks down.
Pepper's POV
"The second thing is...Mr. Stark set up a protocol just in case anything bad happened. He didn't specify what type of bed. But I think this is the time." FRIDAY explained. I stood up from the bed.
"What is the name of the protocol?" I ask, curious.
"The Rescue Protocol." FRIDAY answered. Rescue? Rescue what, Tony? Me? You? I stood there trying to decode the name.
"The protocol is in his lab." FRIDAY adds. I sigh. Of course it is. I start my way in my white tank and light grey pajama shorts.
As I unlock the door, I could already feel my throat tighten up. I have only been in here once since Tony left. That was right after I accepted it. He said no more surprises. Of course he broke that little promise. The door open and I stepped in. The lights turned on. All of his work, strewed around the place, just how he left it. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, holding back my tears and staying strong for him.
"Over here, Ms. Potts." FRIDAY directed. All of a sudden the case with his first iron man suit started to move and shift. I walked closer. Another wall appears and slowly spins around. Revealing a violet with silver accents iron suit. It was smaller and the chest plate was different. I walked closer to touch it. I was confused. "Ma'm, he made an iron man suit for you." FRIDAY explained. I was shocked. I took a step back. I always complained about his suits. Why would he make one for me? "He started to work on it after the whole 'Mandarin' incident. He saw how good his suits protected you from falling debris. He thought if he could advance it enough, it could protect you from anything. Sadly, he was not able to turn it into nano-tech." FRIDAY explained.
"But, he's not here to tech me how to use it. I-I don't even know how to get in it!" I argued, turning away. I wanted no part of this. That will be the first unused iron man suit.
"Ms. Potts, please. I will help you. Do this for him." FRIDAY pleads. I stop in my tracks and sigh.
"Fine. First lesson, go." I command.
"There is a bracelet in the top drawer of the red tool box." FRIDAY informs. I walk over and get it. It was a simple silver bracelet. I put it on. It lights up. That's when the suit starts moving and dismantling itself. Each part came closer to me, so I back up. "Do not be afraid, Ms. Potts. It is armoring you up." FRIDAY assured me. I stood frozen as it put itself together like a puzzle around me. The cool metal sent goosebumps along my skin.
The last piece was the face plate. I saw it coming closer and soon darkened my world.
It took a second, but soon, it came to life. All the holograms. "Hello, Ms. Potts. How do you feel?" FRIDAY said, in the suits. I smile.
"Powerful. Is this how Tony always felt?" I ask, the name rolled off my tongue so easily I couldn't stop myself from saying it. My smile dropped
"There is a prerecorded message from Mr. Stark...Would you like me to play it?" FRIDAY asks. I hesitate. My heart ached for his voice but my mind said not to cause myself anymore pain.
"Play it."
"Hey, honey! See you finally got it! Hopefully it fits well. If it doesn't, let me know. Okay, one sec let me just get the paper I have here and-ahem. Okay here we go.
I know how much you hate my suits from the many times you and Happy have complained about them. Well, ever since I saved you in my prototype during the old house being shot down, I thought about you having your own suit. Oh, might I just say how hot you looked in my suit by the way. But, besides the point. I have come to accept the fact that I will not always be there to save you. Possibly, neither will the Avengers. I love you too much to lose you. I designed this suit to give more power to the thrusts so it can go faster to get you out of situation faster. Don't worry, it still has repulsers and all those bells and whistles. JARVIS is built in and has more authority than my suits since you haven't master the art of an iron man suit. Alright, I'm going to stop talking now, I know you and JARVIS are tired of hearing my voice. Happy birthday or anniversary or merry-whatever day it is. Bye, love you."
"Please don't go." I whisper, knowing it was too late.
"Would you like a test flight?" FRIDAY's question brought me back to this world.
"Yes."
"Where to?"
I thought about it for a bit. Then I remembered the alert from earlier. "Take me to the Avengers compound."
Time Skip
The suit landed gently on the conrete. Already, the Avengers were outside. The suit opened up and I walked out of it. I noticed a new girl. "Pepper." Steve greeted.
"Steve." I reply, I nodded my head towards the new person "who's she?" I ask.
"Carol Danvers. Fury called me. Steve and the rest filled me in. You must be Pepper." She greeted, holding out her hand for me to take. I shake it.
"Yes, Pepper Potts. I am the CEO of Stark Industries." I answer with a slight smile. The biggest one I could muster at the thought of Tony's name. Carol smiles and nods.
"What's with the new suit?" Nat asks, gesturing to it. I hesitate to explain it.
"It's a long story." I lie. They all nod. "So, Fury contacted you. He must know you're going to save all of us from Thanos." I change the subject.
"Yes. That is what I've been told. I'm going to need all the help I can get. You know how that new suit works yet?" Carol asks.
"Uh, a little." I answer. Carol rolls her eyes.
"What's your name?" Bruce asks. I look at him confused. "Come on, you need a superhero name." I thought about it for a second. The protocol.
"Rescue. Her name is Rescue."
