Jade's POV:
"Why're we having her drive? She's the worst," Perrie says from the backseat, making me laugh. Another contraction starts and I grab on the armrest of my seat. "Just breathe babe," I hear Perrie say, rubbing my back. Once it was over, Jesy speaks up. "Your contractions are getting closer to four minutes apart," she says. "You've been counting?" I ask. "Of course," she says laughing.
We pull into the hospital and go over to the desk. We check in and get taken back immediately. The nurse takes my blood pressure and stuff like that, followed by the doctor. "Okay, you are in early labor. Everything is fine, just the baby is going to be small and might need some extra attention. You're about four centimeters dilated, so we have a ways to go. If you decide you want an epidural, page me," the doctor says before leaving.
"Thanks for being here," I say after another contraction. "No problem, I can't wait to meet him," Jesy said, rubbing my stomach. "Have you thought of names?" Leigh asked. I nodded, "I really like the names Luke and Kaiden. I haven't decided which one is going to be middle and first though," I say. "Those are beautiful," Perrie said softly. "Can we change the subject from me please?" I ask. "Well, I'm meeting a little girl on Friday," Jesy says. "What?" The rest of us say in unison. "Why haven't you told us yet?" I ask. "Well, I still don't know if we're going to get her. We still have to meet her and if we like her hope that the paper work goes smoothly. I didn't want to get everyone's hopes up," she says. "I'm sure it will work out, don't worry," Perrie says. "Tell us about her," Leigh says. "Her name is Sophie, she's almost three, she has brown eyes, her hair is brown, long and curly, and I think she likes to draw and dance," she says. "She sounds perfect," I say, as another contraction starts. The girls run over to me and try to soothe any discomfort. I really am grateful that they're here. "Are you sure you don't want any pain medication?" Perrie asks. I shake my head, "I want to do it all naturally," I say. "Okay," she says, still rubbing my arm.
*a few hours later
It's a little past dinner time. I'm about 7 centimeters but I'm stuck there. If things don't progressing soon, they'll have to jump start it. I'm trying to sleep but it's just not happening. I have my eyes closed but I'm stuck daydreaming. I think about what life would've been like if Jed and I were still together. Would this be easier? I can't stop thinking that. Jesy and Leigh had gone to grab some food. Perrie was watching me toss and turn trying to sleep. She must've noticed that I was awake. "What's wrong?" she asks. I open my eyes. "Jed," I say, fighting back tears. "What about him?" she asks. "I just miss him. I know I shouldn't but I wish he was here and our family was back together. My life wouldn't be such a mess if it weren't for him, but I also wouldn't have my family," I say. At this point the tears had just fallen. "Aw, don't cry babe," she says, wiping tears off of my face, "It's okay to miss him. You loved him for a long time. It's your decision, but if you want to try to reach out to him again, it's okay. You don't have to feel guilty for that," she says reassuringly. I gave her hug and she gives me a kiss on the head.
Perrie sits on the bed and snuggles up to me. I slowly start to fall asleep with my head on her shoulder. I wake up to voices. "I can't with theses lovebirds," I hear Jesy say. "Shh, she's sleeping," Perrie whispers, "And shut up, Jerrie is real." I laugh quietly. "See you woke her up," Perrie says when she realizes I'm awake. "Sorry," Leigh says.
The three of them ate. The doctor had come in and suggested for me to bounce on the yoga ball they had. I sat and bounced softly while they ate. It was definitely working because another contraction came, but this time it was a lot worse. "Ow," I say, rubbing my stomach. "Contraction?" Jesy asks. Nodding, I grab the bed lay my face down on it. Perrie draws circles on my back. Jesy was helping me breathe and Leigh was squeezing my hand. "I'm going to page the doctor," Jesy says.
The doctor came in and checked me again. "Miss Thirlwall, you're at a 9. We're going to start prepping for birth. Who is going to be in the room at that time?" he asks. Jesy, Perrie, and Leigh raise their hands. "Okay," he says walking out. "I'll call your mam," Leigh says, walking out. I sit there and take in everything, this is actually happening.
A little while later the doctor came back. "We're going to need you to start pushing, okay?" he asks. I nod. Perrie runs over and grabs my hand. "Okay, on three ready? One, two, three," he said. I pushed and probably broke Perrie's hand. "Okay, again. One, two, three," he said. I pushed again. I repeated this for about 15 minutes before anything happened. I pushed again but this time I felt pressure. "I can see the head," The doctor said making me smile. I pushed again and the doctor said words I had been waiting to hear. "One more," he said. I pushed for the last time and I saw him in the doctor's arms. He didn't cry which made me very concerned. The doctors and nurses ran over and started working on him. "What's wrong with him?" I ask? "The umbilical cord got stuck around his neck," Leigh said putting a hand on my shoulder. Perrie squeezed my hand and rubbed it trying to comfort me.
After a few minutes you heard crying. Everyone sighed in relief when they heard him. They cleaned and wrapped him up before placing him on my chest. "Wow," Jesy says, "He's tiny." I nod looking at him. The nurse spoke up. "He's five pounds, two ounces. Sixteen inches. Do you have a name?" she asks. I hold him in my arms so I can look into his eyes. I immediately know his name. "Kaiden Luke Elliott," I say proudly. I'm keeping Jed's last name so the kids are the same. "Aw baba, that's beautiful," Jesy says. I smile, looking over to Leigh who is taking pictures. "I see you," I say laughing. "Sorry, the mixers are curious," she says. "Can I hold him?" Perrie says. I nod, handing him to her. "Wow, he really is tiny," she says. "Five pounds, two ounces," I say. "Yeah, that's so small," she says. He starts to cry so she hands him back to me. He starts to quiet down and fall asleep in my arms. "I'll go get your mam and the girls," Jesy says.
I hear footsteps down the hall, I look up and see my mam with Jaz and Jolie standing timidly in the doorway. "Hey girls," I say to them softly, "Do you want to meet your brother?" The both nod, walking over, still unsure of him. They stand next to me and I move him down so they can see him. "This is Kaiden," I say. "Kai-den," Jaz says. "Yeah babe," I say. "Can I hold him?" Jolie asks. Both of you go wash your hands and then you can hold him. They go to the sink and wash their hands. They come back and they sit on the end of the bed facing me. I lay him down in both of their laps. I see Perrie taking pictures next to me. They both give him a kiss on the head, which melts my heart. "Aww," everyone said, making me smile. I take him back from them and look into his closed eyes. I start rocking him gently. He opens his eyes and looks at me before falling asleep.
