Time Ahead

chapter twenty three

Jade's POV:
I opened my eyes and turned to the crib beside me. Kaiden was sleeping peacefully. I checked the time at my phone. 4:05 it read. I sighed trying to get comfortable again. Kaiden has already woken up twice so I'm hoping he won't need anything until the morning.
I awake to crying. This time, when I opened my eyes, the sun shone through the window. I reached into the crib and picked up Kaiden. I rocked him softly until the crying stopped. When he calmed down, I fed him. When I was done, I burped him and let him sleep in my arms. There was a soft knock at my door before it opened slightly. I looked over and see Perrie in the doorway. "Hey," she says quietly when she sees Kaiden sleeping. "You didn't have to come. It's early, what about Izzy?" I ask her. "Oh she's fine, Alex is taking her to her swim lesson and then shopping," she says sitting in the chair beside me. "How's the little guy?" she asks. "He woke up a few times but overall he's great," I say, smiling at him in my arms. "How long are you here for?" she asks. "Probably two or three days," I say, "Because of his lack of oxygen they want to keep an eye on him." Perrie nods. "Jesy and Leigh just texted me saying they're on their way," she said. "You know, you all have families too, go spend time with them," I say. "I already told you they're fine," she said.
Jesy and Leigh arrive and come into the room quietly. "Hey, how're you?" Leigh asks. "Sore, but I'll manage," I say. "He's so precious," Jesy says pointing to Kaiden. "Are Jaz and Jolie coming today?" Leigh asked. "I think so, my mam texted me earlier so I think they might swing by later," I say.
After talking for a while, the doctor comes in to check up on me and Kaiden. The girls stand up to leave but the doctor speaks. "You girls can stay, I'll be quick," he says. "Is he doing well?" he asks me. "Yeah, he's great," I say handing him to the doctor. "Okay, let me take a look," he says. The doctor took him to the crib and examined him. "I don't see anything major. He's just underweight so make sure you feed him often. Since he is a little premature, I want to make a check up for him in two weeks. But, other than that he's fine," he said handing Kaiden back to me. "How are you?" he asks. I'm sore but I don't think there's anything wrong," I say. He checks me over and then speaks again. "I want to run a quick test. Don't worry, it's probably nothing but I just want to make sure," he said starting to do the test. "Is everything alright?" I ask nervously. "Yeah, just your blood pressure is really high," he says. Jesy places a soothing hand on my shoulder. The doctor leaves and I'm still nervous. "You're going to be fine baba, don't worry," Perrie says. I nod and look back down at Kaiden. "He looks so much like you," Leigh says. "And Jed," I add. I felt Perrie's hand on my shoulder. "Have you decided what you're going to do?" she asks. I get confused looks from Jesy and Leigh. "Um excuse me, Lesy was not informed of this," Jesy said in a funny accent. I quickly explain everything that I'm feeling about Jed. "Well babe, if it were me I wouldn't talk to him unless I had to. But he was so lovely before, maybe there was a deeper reason why all of that happened. I nod and process all of it. Kaiden starts fussing and I rock him, trying to soothe him.
When he started to settle, I heard two knocks on the door. I turn my head over and see Jaz and Jolie peering their heads in. "Hi mamy, Grandma said we could say hi real quick," Jolie says, mispronouncing a few words. "We'll work on that," I say laughing at her. They both run over and give me a long hug. "Hi Kaiden," Jaz says, waving at him. Can I take another picture?" Perrie asks. "Fine," I say, "You and your pictures." She smiles and poses me and the kids on the bed. "Okay, smile," she says taking the picture. I laid back on the bed with Kaiden in arms and Jaz and Jolie on either side of me. We laid like that for a while, talking about what they've been doing with my man and Kaiden, while the girls got food from the cafeteria. Suddenly, the doctor came back. "Hi, we ran some tests and it turns out that sometime during the birth you started bleeding internally. We're going to have to perform emergency surgery to fix it," the doctor says. "How come I feel fine though?" I asked. "Normally it takes a while to really effect you. Since you gave birth late last night, it hasn't taken too much effect yet since it's only a slight bleed," he explains. I nod understandingly. The doctor walks out and the girls walk in. "So, what's going on?" Leigh asks. "They have to do a surgery because I'm bleeding internally," I say with slight tears in my eyes. "Babe don't worry, you'll be fine and so with Kaiden, Jaz, and Jolie. We'll take care of them while your in there and recovering," Jesy says. By that point the doctor had come in to prep me for surgery. Perrie grabbed the twins' hands and Leigh took Kaiden from me and they walked away, wishing me luck before leaving.
They gave me the anesthesia and rolled my bed down the hall. I got into the operating room and they laid me on the bed. They asked me to count to five. But I could only make it to three before I fell asleep.
