ANNA
"Baby, I'm the one who put you up there
I don't know why..."
The music fades as it comes to an end, but I'm frozen in place. My heart is thumping harshly against my ribs, the music lingering in the back of my mind.
Mingi is breathing heavily, his arms locked around my legs as he holds me up. His eyes are wide and vulnerable. I know that I shouldn't, but I can't help but be mesmerized by this version of him.
"Good job," I breathe out.
Mingi lowers me only a few inches, bringing our faces even closer together. His hot breath dances across my skin as I will my heart to return to a normal speed.
"Are you okay?" Mingi whispers.
"Yes," I lie. In truth, he makes me nervous in ways that I don't even understand.
And being this close to him is definitely not helping.
"Anna..." he breathes, "you need to trust me."
"I do," I lie again.
"Let's try something." Mingi sets me on my feet and turns me around so that I'm facing my reflection in the mirror. I watch as he leans down into my ear and whispers. "You get to see exactly what is happening. If you get uncomfortable, you tell me and I'll stop. Okay?"
"Okay," I nod and wait expectantly for him to do something more.
Mingi places his hands on my shoulders, softly at first and then pushing his thumbs into the muscles below my neck. I hum in content as he kneads out the tension that I didn't realize I had been carrying.
"How's that?" He asks softly.
"Good," I moan, and I watch as Mingi's smile shift into a smirk.
"That's good," he simpers with his lips inches away from my ear. "Now, let's try something else."
ROSE
I sit at the edge of my bed waiting for San to come back from class, unsure of what I'm even going to say when I see him.
I don't see you that way
I shouldn't have gotten your hopes up
Can we please stay friends?
The door opens, but it's not San on the other side. Anna walks in smiling as wide as ever. I half-expect Prince Charming to walk in behind her, but it's his dark and mysterious friend instead.
"Hey girlie...?" I sit up and give her a curious look as to why she's bringing JD from Heathers in our dorm.
"Hey Rose, this is Mingi." She gestures to the tall boy behind her. "We're going ice skating since Mingi has no sense of balance. Want to come with?"
"I'm actually waiting for San." I shrug as an apology, but my curiosity has me studying Tall, Dark and Handsome quite closely. "Do you know a guy named Choi San?"
He stiffens a little, but when Anna looks at him, he forces a smile. "Sort of, we went to school together."
Anna gives me a nervous smile. "Well, we should get going. See you tonight!"
"Okay!" I'm confused as to why she's with Mingi instead of Prince Charming, but I have a feeling I'll be getting a full explanation later tonight.
As soon as I'm left on my own again, I flip back on my bed and close my eyes, thinking through my impending conversation with San.
How am I supposed to let him down after I let him kiss me?
I come to the conclusion that I am officially the worst friend ever at the exact moment that my door opens again, this time revealing that sweet smile that I'm afraid I won't see after I tell him what I need to say.
"Are you tired, Rosie?" San walks over to me, and I shake my head 'no'. "Good."
"San..." I sit up so I can be at level with him. "We need to talk."
"I figured," he offers me a small smile and looks down at the floor, "I know I kind of ambushed you the other day."
"I'm not mad or anything," I assure him.
"That makes me feel better," he giggles nervously. "I don't want to lose you and make things awkward at rehearsal. I had a really stressful day when we... well when I kissed you, but I swear that wasn't my plan when I came here."
"That makes me feel so much better." I lay my head on his shoulder, unsure of what else to say to him.
Someone starts frantically knocking on my door before the silence can get any thicker. Me and San look at each other for a moment, but then he stands from the bed and answers the door.
"Roseanne better fucking be here or you're going to have to put up with me yourself," Jennie's shaky voice demands.
I jump from my bed and run over to see my sister with tears pooling in her eyes. "Jennie, what happened?"
"Kai is a piece of shit," she says angrily as she throws herself into my arms. A broken sob escapes her as I stroke her hair. "He dumped me."
I look to San, who asks, "should I leave?"
"No, get your ass over here." Jennie barks, forcing San to join our hug.
