WOOYOUNG

"What's up, bud?" My dad's groggy voice crackles from my bad cell service.

"Hey Dad, I'm sorry to wake you but I need some advice," I tell him. "I'm about to do something stupid in the name of love."

"Then you're definitely my kid," he chuckles. "It's EllaJin, isn't it?"

"Yeah," I nod even though he cant see me do it, "I'm gonna confess and I'm kind of scared shitless, but I've got to do it now."

"I'd tell you to sleep on it, but Park men are not patient people... it's Wooyoung... yeah, everything's fine—he's perfectly fine—Jungsoon, no—"

"—Wooyoung, it's Mom." She must've grabbed the phone. "Are you okay? Why are you calling this late at night?"

"I'm fine, Mom," I groan. I really don't want to have to talk to my mom about my girl trouble. "Can I please talk to Dad again? I need advice on something."

"And you don't think I can be helpful?" My mom pretends to be offended.

"He's having girl problems, jagi," I hear my dad say in the background.

"All the more reason why he should be coming to me," she protests.

"I've got this," my dad insists, but mom never goes down without a fight.

"He's my only shot at grandkids, so I get some say in this," she whines.

"We could always just make another—"

"—you're only existing kid is still listening and currently mortified," I cut in.

"Fine, but I expect to hear about this girl when we come visit for parent's weekend."

"Love you, mom," I coo as sweetly as I can.

"I love you too, sweetie," she says before passing the phone back to my dad.

"So, what's the situation here?" My dad asks. "Have you talked to her? Does she know you like her?"

"I'm pretty sure she feels the same way that I do, but I really upset her and I don't know how to come back from that. June said to sweep her off her feet, but how?"

"Be confident, that boyish cuteness of yours isn't going to work if you're trying to make amends with her. If you're gonna sweep her off her feet, you tell her with your whole chest that this is how you feel and you're not sorry about it." He takes a deep breath. "That's how I got your mom. I thought I had no chance with her, and look how that turned out. You've got this, bud. Park men have a way with the ladies, trust me."

"Alright, I can do this," I repeat to myself. "Thanks Dad. Sorry for waking you up."

"No problem," he assures me. "We'll see you on Parent's weekend."

"Love you," I say before hanging up.

EllaJin's apartment is only a few more minutes away, but as soon as I finally reach the door to go inside, I can feel my palms sweat. "You can do this, Wooyoung. Just go in there and sweep her off her feet."
