SUE
"Sue, baby—" Yunho chuckles slightly, though there's an unmistakable edge to his voice. "You know I'm not complaining—b-but we do need to study for this exam..."
I huff playfully and retract my lips, which has been painting pretty red marks on his skin, from his neck. "My plan was more fun but I guess you're right."
Yunho smirks and kisses my cheek before handing me my laptop. "Let's get some studying done so I can reward you."
"Oh?" I giggle and peck his lips. "Now we're talking."
"Back to work, Miss Wang." He winks and pulls open his own laptop, eyes glued to the screen as he sets to work on his Cantonese assignment.
"You don't want my help with that?" I pout and set my laptop to the side. Being a year older than Yunho means I have less general classes and less exams as a result, so he definitely needs more study time than me. "What is your exam on?"
"The basics," he answers, only half listening as he squints at the screen. "I know the sounds, but I always get messed up on the inflections."
"Let me help you," I lift up his laptop and set it on my thighs so I can see what he's working on. Yunho pouts and pulls me up by my hips onto his lap to eliminate the space between us. "You get a kiss for each correct answer."
Yunho nuzzles into my neck. "I like this game already."
ANNA
"Hongjoong?" I squint at the door for a moment and register the puzzled expression on his face. "This isn't—"
"This is college, Anna," Hongjoong chuckles dismissively. "I'm uh... I'm actually here for Mingi. I need to talk to him about something."
Mingi stiffens beside me and hugs me tighter, as if he somehow already knows what Hongjoong is referring to. "No, hyung. Tell him to fuck off."
"Mingi!" I gasp in surprise. "You shouldn't address your hyung that way."
"He's not talking about me," Hongjoong points out.
"The sperm bag," Mingi mumbles against my skin, still refusing to let go of me. "Tell him he can fuck off, please hyung. I don't want to know him. I want him to disappear again."
"He didn't know, Mingi." Hongjoong takes the opportunity to come into the room and sits down across from us. "He didn't abandon you. Your mom moved away the moment she found out she was pregnant and never told him. He's spent the last two years searching the world for you, and no one would put that much effort into someone that they didn't love."
"I felt the same way you did when Yoongi first found me." I add gently. "I was sure that my biological parents didn't want me, but I'm so grateful that I got to meet and get to know him."
Mingi finally pulls back enough to look at me. "I guess... will you come with me? I can't face him on my own."
"I—..." I look between him and Hongjoong, unsure of how to answer. "Yeah, sure. Whatever you need."
"Thank you," Mingi pecks my lips and slowly sits up to face Hongjoong. "So what now?"
"Maybe you meet for coffee?" Hongjoong suggests. "I can tell him where to meet you. Just say where and when and he'll be there."
"Tonight at 8," Mingi says quickly. "I want to get it over with before I try to back out."
"Sure, I'll give him the message." Hongjoong stands and crosses back to the door. "Are you guys... good in here?"
"Yeah, I should get going anyways." Mingi takes a deep breath and smiles gently at me. "Thanks Anna, for calming me down. I'll see you later tonight?"
"Sure," I nod, dazed and confused as he departs as quickly as he arrived. "What just happened?"
"Mingi feels safe with you," Hongjoong notes, not quite out the door himself yet. "I've never seen him so comfortable with anyone. You must have done something right."
"Hongjoong—" I call after him before he has a chance to leave. "Um... I don't really..."
The man in question seems to know what I'm trying to say despite the lack of needed vocabulary. "Don't worry, I'm not going to say anything to Seonghwa. It's none of my business."
"It's not—Mingi isn't—..." I can't even form enough of a coherent thought to finish my sentence, let alone form the words. "I don't really know what is going on..."
"There's no rush to figure it out," Hongjoong offers me a gentle smile. "It's only your first year of college."
He shuts the door without another word and leaves me alone with my thoughts, swirling and merging and overlapping each other like waves of the ocean.
"What the hell am I doing?"
