Drunk, Happy, Gone...

Nick slowly got out of his drunken state. Mostly thanks to me since, I y'know fetched him the water, cup after cup. I was exhausted, but I kept on going back, and I slowly realised it wasn't just to be nice. There was something about him, his eyes. He spoke with such emotion, but his eyes told me more than his mouth ever could. A part of me felt lucky that Nick told, me out of anyone about his issue.

That is until I realised:

A - Nick was drunk ( apparently what a drunk man says is really what he is thinking)

B - I was the only person there ( the right place at the right time)

Still, it made me feel good to think he chose me, to tell his story to, out of everyone else. Even if he was drunk.

I suddenly felt a warm hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see Luke smiling at me. He then turned his face to see an-almost-sober-but-still-drunk Nick. His expression turned from happy to concerned almost immediately.

"Nick, you alright?"

Nick looked up at Luke, smiled and replied, "Hey man, got any aspirin?"

Luke shook his head playfully before saying, "Drunk again? Nick you asshole!"

He walked up to his friend and gave a man-to-man hug. Y'know the one where you grab his shoulder and pull him to you? Ok that probably makes no sense, but yeah, like that.

"Your mom again?"

"Yep."

So Luke knew? Phew, this would make lying to him a lot more easy....

"Look man, I know it's hard, I, I do. But you gotta get over it. For your own sake, yes?"

"Yeah, yeah."

" I'll allow you guys to have a bro, bro moment," I began heading towards the door.

"No, no. Please stay." I turned my head, to see Nick staring intensely at me. Luke raised his eyebrow at bit, but nodded at me too.

Why Nick wanted me here was beyond me. Maybe he was still drunk. But from the amount of plastic cups scattered around his desk, I guessed he was almost sober at this point. Maybe there was a small chance that he actually liked me... The thought of me and Nick hugging, kissing, touching me sent electricity through my body.

Suddenly, the door slammed, sending me back to reality.

"Oh, you're still here." I didn't even bother to turn my head. Did she ever just quit?

"I thought you'd have seen sense and moved somewhere else where you're wanted..." she continued.

"Becca please, cut her some..."

"Alvin, PLEASE."

"But yeah, you're not welcome here."

I couldn't help but laugh. What a goddam pussy, letting his girlfriend push him around like some kinda, kinda oh I dunno but you get the picture: he was Pussy, a kitten, while his dog of a girlfriend barked at him to do what she says. Hopefully one day he'll grow some claws. For his sake, and mine.

"Nick, are you ok? The fuck did you do to him?!" I realised Rebecca was talking to me.

"What do you mean?" I asked innocently, pretty sure that this would piss her off.

"Don't try that shit with me. You can't push me around like you can with him over there."

"Nice to refer to boyfriend as him."

"She's right."

The fuck?!

I couldn't help but laugh.

"Think that's funny?" Rebecca said, stepping closer to me. "At least someone is willing to defend me. I've got someone. Who have you got?"

"I can fight my own battles." I replied, making sure I ended the comment with a little smirk, for, y'know, effect.

"Well you're gonna fucking lose this one, so why don't you just get the fuck outta here!"

"Did you know that swearing really dumbs you down. Though with you, I don't think there's much more damage to do..."

"Did you know you're full of shit! Shut you're fucking mouth. You don't know a damn thing about me!"

"Oh yes I do. You're just some stuck-up bitch with a Pussy-whipped husband, who probably wipes and kisses your ass for you! Treat people the way you do, and you're gonna end up lonely, very lonely. Or maybe you'll get lucky and end up with some loser."

I turned to Alvin and said, "You don't deserve her, man. Go find someone who appreciates you."

Alvin opened his mouth to speak but Rebecca gave the 'Becca bitch' glare. Actually I'll use that nickname from now on, it really suited her.

Becca Bitch turned her head to speak, when Sarah and Carlos walked in. Well, at least she had the decency to watch her mouth while around kids, even if sarah was 13 years of age.

She gave Alvin one last glare, then turned it to Luke and Nick, both of which, with a perfectly shaped smile.

"You enjoy the show?"

They nodded their head in unison.

"Good, because that was just the start of series one..."

- lunch -

Nick had gone off for some unknown reason. I couldn't figure him out. One minute he was crying about his mom, the next his was laughing about my triumphant standoff, the next he slumped off. Luke and I spent half of our lunchtime trying to find him, but no such luck. I guessed it made Luke wonder a bit more.

"What happened early that morning? He do something stupid?"

I kept quiet. I thought Luke knew about Nick's mom's death. But the more I thought about it, the more I began to wonder if Luke knew about the death, but just not how it happened.

"Look, you can tell me, I'm just lookin out for him."

"He just got drunk." I said, which wasn't exactly a lie, but the closest to the truth.

"Yeah, but why? There's always a reason."

Again, I kept quiet

Luke sighed before raising an eyebrow. "Look, I'm just worried about him, y'know? Keep an eye out for him, if I'm not there."

I just nodded. Not because that was all I could do, but because I actually genuinely cared about Nick. I just wasn't sure if it was a friend way, or something more...

"Do you wanna join our group? Y'know become one of us?"

Wait what?

I looked up at Luke, his face unreadable. What did he mean by that? It sounded like one of the sayings on Mean Girls, one the many movies I've watched over a million times. Probably explained why I could handle bitches like Becca Bitch.

"Um yeah, sure."

"Well then we're glad to welcome you." Luke had a huge smile on his face.

"Do you think everyone else will be okay with it?"

"They'll just have to deal with it.'

Ha. Yeah, the Becca Bitch will...
