What happened to...

"I just... Didn't want to see it happen to you..."

Nick's words were still fresh in my head, giving me that unexplainable emotion which I couldn't seem to shift off. It hadn't actually hit me that it would've been best to ask him until he was halfway into the playground, and trust me, there was nothing that could get me out there...

So instead I was forced to trail to.... Ugh, ew, maths. It turned out I was a little late...

"Miss Everett! What time do you call this?" Miss Irene demanded, not her usual tone. I shrugged at that because I didn't have a watch.

"Um, er ah... 10 past?" I guessed, a wave of laughter springing up from behind me.

"Well, luckily for you miss Everett, we're learning about time today. Take a seat." She smirked a little, tapping her high heels to a fast beat. She somehow knows that this irritates me. I'm just glad that I chose to sit at the back, more for her sake then mine...

"Where were you?" Luke asked. "Weren't thinking of skiving were ya?"

"What?! Luke, no are you cra - "

"Cause I woulda joined you if anything..." He finished, taking a moment to absorb the shocked and panicked expression... Written all over my face. And then of course, the laughing began.

I took this to my advantage however, punching him in the stomach before pushing his chair backwards. One of the unfortunate things about sitting at the back is that your chair is literally touching the wall. My so-called comeback was short lived.

"Nice try," he winking at me. I signed taking in defeat.

Our maths table was unusually quiet today... Actually no, 'empty' seems more appropriate. Considering that Luke and I make the most noise on our table, or class if that.

"Where's Arvo?"

He shrugged, looking around almost as if he hadn't even noticed. "Nor is his friend... What's his name again?"

"Who knows?"

"Oh god I'm so hungry..."

"That makes two of us..."

You see, we had to spend our entire break inside the maths block, and why?

*Flashback*

"So... How many minutes are there in 24 hours?"

"I don't know..."

"What time frame is there between 7:45 and 12:26?"

"Um... Ur?"

"How many trains go by in 3 hours?"

"Who cares?"

5 mins later...

"This is bullshit." I murmured under my breath, taking a moment to wish that I had a watch, which in my case, is rare.

"Tell me about it..." He was having even less luck than me, and had resorted to drawing pretty detailed images on the back of his hand instead.

Meanwhile, Miss Irene began to monitor the level of work being done by the student. She was one of the annoying teachers who took it upon herself to check on every single pupil's book. This gave Luke and I a bit of an advantage however, as she was also very slow, mainly because she began marking the half-finished work, before checking someone else's and then going back to fully marking the original book. Confusing and stupid, yes I know...
