Finally did it! Sorry for the wait though, I will try to update more frequently but I'm a pretty slow writer aha. I've also finished my Luke and Nick tribute, click the link in my bio to watch it.
"Ashley! Dinner's ready!"
I was already racing downstairs at the word 'dinner'. My hungry stomach only grew hungrier, as the delicious smell seeped from the kitchen, and into my nostrils. It was favourite: Chips and baked beans, followed by a chocolate ice cream sundae. It was the kind of meal I would die for for. Luckily for me, I was able to have this meal very often, if I behaved well, which I did. But wouldn't I? I had the life everyone took for granted, the one that when suddenly vanishes we all weep and cry and ask 'why me?' or 'why not them?' or just plain 'why?'. But that was the problem; I never thought it would end. It was in the blink of an eye, one minute we were having the life, the next -
"Ashley? Ashley!" Somehow Luke ended up on top of me, shaking the life out of me. It took me a second to realize that it wasn't noon, with the sun shining on a normal Saturday. Instead I was in a dark room, on a Thursday, living a life that was far from normal, at least from my previous one anyway...
"What happened? You were screaming in your sleep..."
I just shrugged, "Just a bad dream."
"Just?" I decided to ignore him. I wasn't really in the mood, nor did I have the energy to explain. Chances are, I'd end up having a mental breakdown.
But Luke wasn't giving up that easy. He reached out to turn on the lamp, before resting both his hands on my shoulders, forcing me to look him in the eyes. Something I have struggled to do for a long time.
"Look, I can't stand to see you like this... You're eyes are red, your arms are sweaty..."
WHAT!? I peer down at my arms, and I realize that he is right. My whole body is sweaty, shaking slightly. I can also feel the blood rush down my neck, arms, legs and back, resulting in my shaking in me even more. Luke chuckled a bit at my surprise before placing his hands on my arm. My muscles began to relax almost instantly.
"Ashley, please. You're killing me - "
"Its my mum." I mumbled it so quietly that even I had trouble acknowledging what I had just said.
"It's my mum." I repeated, but loud enough for both of us to hear. I could feel my eyes begin to prick
"Oh." Luke was barely looking at me. I could tell that he knew that I was about to spill.
I felt Luke wrap a warm arm around my shoulder. The blood rush slowed down, which warmed up my back and shoulders.
"I understand. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want do."
"I don't." Obviously.
Luke frowned a bit, before cupping my face, placing his thumbs just under my eyes. "Just in case you need a net to catch the water," he smiled, "you're strong, Ashley. And maybe you're not comfortable with telling me right now. It's fine, i get it. But I'll always be there for you, when you need a hug, or a talk, or this..." His lips were soft and warm on mine, restoring my deprived senses, and filling the hole in my heart.
"... I'll be there. You can trust me, every step of the way..." Why did that sound so familiar?
I was crying now, but the tears were warm, wanted... happy...
"Thanks, Luke." I buried my face into his chest.
"Don't mention it." Luke replied, stroking my hair so softly, I didn't even realize he was doing it at first. I looked back up at him, my face wet and happy. Luke smiled, reaching out to my face, but hesitating slightly.
