"Are you still here?" The voice at the other end impatiently snapped. This somehow took me back, causing me to almost drop the phone. I don't even know why I needed to react; But then again, I can't say I'm not exactly surprised.

"Yes." I simply murmured. I didn't really have much else to say...

"Good. Tell your Dad that he and I, well, need to have a little talk." I could literally picture the ever growing snide smirk across her face. I could also feel my cheeks heating up slowly but surely. It's a kind of anger I don't express to anyone... But her.

"No. Dad doesn't want to see you again, and neither do I." I glanced up at a confused looking Carly. She placed her thumb on her bottom lip, and I could tell she was beginning to get suspicious.

"Well I'm really sorry to hear that, but you see your Dad hasn't been completely honest about the... Situation." Her voice was dangerously angry but strangely calm. I could t quite explain it.

"Don't start this again, mo --- " I stop myself at the last minute gagging a bit due to the fact that I almost said the word I vowed to never mention again. As far as I was concerned, I didn't have one.

"You listen to me --- "

"NO YOU LISTEN TO ME!" I screamed, surmised at my sudden angry outburst. I guess I get that from here. I glanced towards Carly, who was equally as astonished.

"I FUCKING HATE YOU!!! OKAY! JUST LEAVE MY DAD AND I ALONE! I DONT WANT YOU IN MY LIFE --- not anymore..." I can feel the exhaustion on my lungs as I finally take a breath.

"Don't you fucking swear at me. Don't forget your my daughter and I won't let your asshole of a dad keep you us apart any --- "

"Are you alright?" Carly asked, cautiously peering down at my hand.

"Fine." Was all I said, my finger slowly beginning to redden, still firmly pressed on the red button. Kinda like my temper right now.

"Come here." She offered, and I found myself falling into her arms. She felt warm and happy, but not cosy. In her arms I felt safe, calm and in a way... Happy. What I'm trying to say is, I trust her she's more of a mother to me than anything really.

"Thanks." I replied, feeling a sudden wetness on my cheek. Carly thrust the tissue box towards me and I didn't hesitate to the offer.

"Don't mention it. Listen, you should go get some sleep. You look as tired as hell."

"Thanks," I said again, sarcastically but I soon found myself laughing.

"I'm serious. You don't fuck with a reporter who hasn't had a good nights sleep. Or if they haven't had their cup of coffee at least."

I smiled, nodding before heading upstairs. I passed Dad's room, hoping he wasn't asleep yet.

"Hey," he smiled as soon as he saw me.

"Hey. Horrible histories, huh? Thought you were supposed to be sleeping..."

"Couldn't miss this brilliant tv show now could I? Plus I couldn't sleep, especially while hearing you so upset..."

"It's okay, Dad. It's not your fault..."

"I sure didn't help..."

"Mom made a choice, Dad. Yes, she had her reason, but that doesn't give her any excuse for what she did, mostly to you." And I notice his shoulders flinch, his face decorated with guilt.

"Dad! Stop, you're scaring me! She won't find us, will she...? I don't want to ever see her not after --- "

"Ssshhh." Dad hushed me. I climbed onto the bed, letting Dad's arm hook over my shoulder.
