By the time Luke and I had reached the lunch hall, it was almost empty. Great, just great - I'll thank Nick when a find him later...
Anyway, we grabbed what was left, sat down and Luke began to tell me a little bit about the group. I think you can guess what my first question was...
"What the hell is her problem?! She just treats me like utter shit!"
Luke chuckled a bit. "Well, you didn't exacly help the situation did you?"
"Look, i just don't like people pushing me around. Now, what is her problem?"
Luke turned away from me a bit, and i could tell he was trying to think of the nicest possible way to explain the situation.
"Luke...?"
"What's the most important thing in this world?"
"Huh." Of all the ways Luke could've told me, i didn't think i would be an guess-the-answer situation. Still, one thing did come to mind...
"Food... But not this kind, y'know." Today's menu was curry with some kind of mystery meat. I think i was better off not knowing what meat it was...
Luke chuckled before saying, "No, try again. Think about it, everyone wants it, even the gangs..."
"Saftey?" To me, there were only three statues according to safety. You were either safe, caught or dead.
Luke just looked at me. "No Ash, its family."
i raised an eyebrow, "What?"
"I take it you're not too close with your family."
"Well, I am with my dad. He has a love for history, i can tell you that. Though my mother always used to wonder why he was so intereasted, since y'know, history is really only for old white guys."
Luke smiled, "Yeah, history is pretty cool. I've always wanted to major in it ya know. But of course i gotta at least do a minory in argreculture, to keep the old man happy."
"Cool." I wished my family could be that easy to please.
Luke must have sensed this was a touchy topic. But if he thought he was helping the situation, he was doing anything but.
"Soooo... What's with your mom? You don't really seem to talk about her much."
I shrugged. The truth was, I knew exactly what happened and she deserved every single bit. I had no sympathy for her whatsoever.
"We just argued a lot, y'know?" That was probably the nicest, possible way I could explain it.
Luke frowned. "It's fine. Look, I'm sorry I asked you. It ain't any of my business."
"No it's not." I was literally on the verge of crying when I suddenly felt warm. Oh of course; it was Luke again.
"Thanks," I said, as soon as he let go of me.
"Don't mention it. Wanna head back?"
"Sure."
- 2 mins later -
"Oh for fucks sake!"
Yeah, we eventually found Nick outside behind the bike shed smoking a spliff. He offered Luke and I one, but we both furiously declined.
"Nick you better have an explanation for this! I missed out on pizza day because of you. I mean all was left was the curry, CURRY. For all I know I could've eaten damn horse meat!"
"Easy Luke." Right now, the mystery curry was the very least of our problems.
"Nick, where did you get the spliff from?"
Nick pointed towards two boys, one with long blonde hair and another with dark short hair, mostly covered over by a beanie hat. Wait did he have a piercing? Hmmm I always did like men with a little metal in them...
"They had a bit left over and Eddie let me have it. Don't worry i aint dealing with -"
"Nick shut the - you don't want your uncle to hear..."
"The fuck are you talkin bout!? Its not... oh yeah, yeah sure."
"What is it?"
"Nothing." Luke and Nick were barely looking at me.
"Cmon Luke, don't be like that..."
Luke shoulders stiffened. He glared at me, his eyes intense. He then turned to Nick.
"Gotta light?"
