I turn from rail
I hear wings whirl
Turn back around
Blue color swirl
Blue jays are smart
Behind my back
They come and snatch
A peanut snack
All other birds
Are very shy
I must stay back
Or they won't try
But over time
The trust has grown
Begin to shrink
Their safety zone
Within six feet
Red cardinal comes
To grab a nut
Fear overcome
Chickadee sings
Me a tune
Then grabs a nut
His song a boon
Tiny titmouse
Checks me out
Then grabs a nut
He has no doubt
Sparrows, finches
Watch from green trees
Then a lone one
Swoops on the breeze
Behind wood post
She peeks at me
Then she hops out
And I feel glee
Soon small brown birds
Hop to and fro
I sit and watch
My backyard show
