As I walk along lake shore
Grateful wind has stopped its roar
Bundled in warm hat and coat
Watch slow bobbing of moored boat
Over lake soars an eagle
Hear loud bay of a beagle
Rabbits race to hide in hedge
Deer drinks at dark water's edge
Green leaves hang from last week's freeze
A day of wind stripped tall trees
Most bushes bare of leaf screen
Critters are easily seen
Watch squirrels race around tree base
Chill nips at my rosy face
Birds sharpen beaks on bark threads
Back and forth go little heads
Crow caws pierce gray cloudy sky
Chasing hawk that's flying high
Kitty crying at my feet
Hoping for a backrub treat
Go inside and sit by fire
Pops and sizzles of log choir
Cat jumps up into my lap
We settle in for a nap
