Nature is reminding me
That summer is not over
As sweat rolls down my face
Dripping in yard's white clover
Silly words I have written
That autumn is on its way
As I smack a mosquito
And feel my own sweat spray
The hottest days of the year
It's not what I had in mind
While listing September's goals
Outside work will be a grind
Moving goals to October
I revise September's list
As late summer flaunts her heat
I crave a cool autumn mist
Even critters are hiding
Few move in the mid-day heat
With the early evening shade
They arrive for a peanut treat
But soon the show is over
Critters do a quick retreat
Seeking dark cool wood shadows
Where they eat their nutty treat
Sun drops behind fading trees
Underbrush in bright light
Ending hot summer day
We welcome dark night respite
