My eyes bug out
It that a snake?!
My shocked mind reels
Fast air intake
Under my couch
He disappears
Grab a flashlight
And face my fears
A frantic search
No trace I find
Where did he go
I softly whined
See register
Set in wood floor
Cool air pours out
Dark corridor
Make a quick call
To furnace folk
Could snake start fire
With curious poke?
Probably not
Says serviceman
Sigh in relief
Decide on plan
I will assume
That twining form
Now lays within
Long metal dorm
Fall maintenance
In October
A serviceman
Cautious prober
Will snake be found?
Must wait and see
If hungry snake
From furnace flees
A restless sleep
I had that night
But I felt better
With morning light
It's been two weeks
No sign of snake
With cold weather
That snake may bake!
