Even plants are hot today
Leaves hang down in sun's hot rays
Shade does not keep heat at bay
Skies take on a dirty haze
Humid air makes breathing tough
Some of us will pant and huff
Dry throats leave our voices rough
Chew ice for a cool mouth puff
Only young one acts like clown
Even birds have settled down
Quiet reigns in forest town
Notice grass is turning brown
Nights do not bring much relief
Hot nights keep our sleep time brief
Dawn arrives to disbelief
Rest was stolen by heat thief
Time to break the heat's hot rule
Seek a stream that has a pool
Mountain stream flows slow and cool
Soak feet, float and splash like fool
Eat meal with a happy grin
Water droplets cool our skin
Watch our children run and spin
Special time we share with kin
In twilight clear water gleams
Children shout with playful screams
Relief in deep mountain streams
Hope for night of peaceful dreams
