Gardener's Twist

26 12 18

Loud sounds of people

Have faded tonight

Only soft humming

From cars out of sight

Mowers are silent

Everyone inside

Everything is soaked

But I will not hide

Soak up cooling breeze

Watch two blue jays fight

Sun sparkles through trees

Soothed by dappled light

Stroll through my garden

Cleome glows deep pink

Milkweed is blooming

A monarch's life link

Catnip is spreading

Where many cats roll

Soft spikes of purple

Where bumblebees toll

Rose champion jewels

White diamonds abound

Red rubies shine too

Three feet from brown ground

Days of rain pouring

Are now in the past

With days of bright sun

All plants will grow fast

Throughout garden bed

Are vining green weeds

Charlie is creeping

Wild strawberries bead

As night blankets rise

I embrace soft sheet

Through lips slip a sigh

Plush pillows I greet

Summer night's music

Symphony of tones

Tonight, I slumber

And rest weary bones

Tomorrow is war

And murderous deeds

In my garden bed

Towards all creeping weeds
