"Young vampires! Approach me." Ra commanded to Basil, Certus, Donta, and myself. "Isis bring me the bowl and brush." He instructed her. "As each of you know, the child that Hathor carries must be born. Though you all possess great powers it will not be enough to protect her from the evil that seeks to destroy the child. While we as Gods are not allowed to change what fate has done we can influence the balance through you. Members of the council you will report here to train with the Gods so that you are better prepared for what is to come." He said looking at our entire party.
"Come to me young ones." Ra commanded to Basil, Certus, Donta, and myself beckoning to us. Taking a bronze bowl and small brush Ra stood before Basil, Certus and Donta one by one painting various hieroglyphics on their chests, arms, backs, face, and legs. Despite the many hieroglyphics he had to paint he managed to do so with amazing speed and precision.
Once he has finished covering their bodies he closed his eyes and whispered an ancient spell. As he whispered the symbols on their bodies began to glow a soft blue color that brightened before slowly fading away along with the hieroglyphics that had been painted on their bodies.
Taking the sharp tip of the brush handle Ra then cut the eye of himself onto his forearm. He clenched his fists as golden light flowed forth from his wound into a sterling silver bowl that Isis had given him. With the bowl now partially full he turned to me.
"Young Alesandro I charge you with being soul source of protection for my daughter and my unborn grandchild yet you are not without your weaknesses." He said as his eyes seem to bore holes through me. "Drink my son so that I may rest assured that my daughter and grandchild may be safe." He said offering me the bowl. I drank the contents of the bowl relishing the sweetness of its flavor as feelings of peace and tranquility washed over me.
Ra held out his had as a small ball of sunlight, the size of a globe appeared in his hand. "This is pure sunlight." He said "I have dimmed the glow so as not to hurt your eyes but I would like for each of you to place your hands upon it".
I was hesitant but I slowly placed my hand on the orb as its warmth surged through me. There was no burning as I had approached the orb nor now that I was touching it. Certus was next to place his hand on the orb followed by Donta and then Basil.
"By the elder vampires" Certus muttured.
"I never thought this was possible." Exclaimed Donta as Basil stood dumbfounded.
"Young ones." He said looking at the four of us. "I have bestowed upon you protection from all forms of light. Walk forth and have no fear of the sun for you are no longer creatures of the night. As for you Alesandro not only are you protected from all forms of light but also from silver. I have also shared with you some of my essence, not just my essence of Ra but of my true form Amun Ra. The others" he said motioning to the council members, Donta, Certus, and Basil "will receive instruction in honing their skills and learning from our Gods but you, young Alesandro, must learn how to use yours on your own. For me to instruct you would be too great an influence on the fates."
"Excuse me my Lord." Donta said "But am I understanding you correctly in that we are now able to walk in the daylight?" he asked still in shock from his new gift.
"Yes Donta" Ra said chuckling "I do remember that you were always quite fond of basking in my rays when you were human."
"Dear husband" came Nut's gentle voice. "Let us not be inhospitable, I believe all of this standing has taken a toll on our guests." She said taking note of the weariness on the elder council members faces.
"Ah yes forgive me young ones. Please comfort our family Nut." With a wave of her hand various chairs appeared and seemed to be custom for each person present. I watched as Affinity and the other council members collapsed into the chairs with sighs of relief.
"My daughter." Ra said approaching Hathor. "Your gift I will allow your mother to bestow on you." He said looking to his wife.
Rising from her massive throne she began to cross the hall toward us and with each step she became smaller until she was the size of an average human woman.
"Dearest daughter, although I am saddened that your sister was unable to fulfill the prophecy I have no doubt that you will. You will always have my unconditional love as your mother but unfortunately I cannot protect you. As you are with child you will be in no condition to defend yourself. Though you are a Goddess you are weakened during the time of child. My gift to you is a part of me, from my essence I gift to you the wings of the sky and stars."
Placing one hand over her heart and the other over Hathor's she inhaled slowly before closing and opening her eyes to reveal the darkest blue eyes I had ever seen while Hathor's glowed golden. Bands of light the color of each woman's eyes wound around Nut's arm intertwining with one another before disappearing at each woman's heart. As she removed her hands there was ripping sound as two massive pitch black silky wings unfurled behind Hathor.
As she stood the wings shimmered changing to an almost translucent white. "This my daughter will not only allow you a quick escape in time of need but they have the ability to shield you. Your wings are large enough to wrap around yourself. When they are black they shield you in the darkest of nights and when they are white they shield you in light making you invisible to those around you. Once you return to Earth you must focus when you use them for if you confuse them they will put you in grave danger. If the wings are white in darkness they shine as bright as the North Star and if they are black in light they create darkness. Do not fear their size for you can easily tuck them away." Nut explained.
Stretching her wings wide, Hathor, eyed her wings marveling at their beauty. She flapped them a few times as she tested them out, changing their color and tucking them through the guidance of her mother.
