Jaehyun's POV
"Hey, babe. Can we talk for a moment? It's kind of important," I ask as I find Taeyong in his office.
He looks up at me with loving eyes that I could get lost in. I mentally shake the thoughts out of my head.
It's not time to think about that, as cute as he is.
"We have a situation."
Taeyong's face drops, "What's going on? I don't like the sound of those words."
I sit on the chair in front of his desk and begin explaining to him about Haechan and everything the boy told me.
"He looks scared. Please, don't tell anyone I told you his story. He trusted me with it. I don't think we should kick him out. He has no one."
The room's silence feels suffocating as I await Tae's opinion on the matter. He seems to be lost in thought and I'm about to give up hope when he breaks the silence with a sigh.
"Let me meet him."
I don't hesitate to agree and quickly jump to my feet, leading him out of the room and to where the boy was resting for the moment.
"Please, be calm when talking to him. He's fragile."
Taeyong shoots a glare my way, "What do you make me out to be, a monster? Thanks, babe." He emphasizes the last word.
Before I can defend myself, we stand in front of the bedroom door. I hesitantly knock, trying to make sure I don't scare our guest.
Kun's face appears from behind the door, but then, when he realizes it's us, he opens it wider.
I watch Taeyong as he moves into the room, cautiously eyeing the small boy placed on the bed. They both had a stare down that made the atmosphere awkward.
"Both of you leave. I would like to talk to him."
Kun and I immediately follow his orders. Gang leader Taeyong was talking and you do not take your time in responding to his demands.
Donghyuck's pov
The man in front of me stares at me, before finding a seat on the ground in front of the bed I'm sitting on. When he looked up at me, the expression on his face changed. He had a look of innocence and sympathy on his face.
I take notice of the facial features he held and find a small birthmark on the side of one of his eyes. Seeing that sent shivers down my back. I wonder how he got that.
"Jaehyun told me what happened. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you I'm completely oblivious. I don't plan to throw your problems around and air them like dirty laundry."
I stare at him longer, not making any move to respond. My heart was racing and my palms were sweating drastically.
"We're a gang here. I'm the leader. My name is Lee Taeyong. I don't completely trust you yet, though, which is why you have to stay here for awhile. Judging on your situation, it will be good for you. Its not a very happy life, but it sounds to be a step up from your old one."
He pauses. I feel my anxiety easing just slightly. It's as if he has a tough exterior built up, but there's a softer side to him that he doesn't like to show. He proves it by getting up and standing in front of me, before reaching to ruffle my hair.
"You're safe here, kid. We will protect you. I also want to see some of those powers in action, though. Maybe later when you've calmed down. I can tell you're terrified."
He starts walking towards the door to leave.
"Don't be scared. We're all a close knit family and everyone loves you already. If you need me, I'll be in my office on the other side of the house."
With that, his presence disappears from the room. I oddly feel very calm after having that interaction. I hope he isn't always that intimidating though. I like his pink hair.
I giggle at my last thought.
"Haechan!"
The door quickly opens wide, revealing a worried Mark. There was a smaller boy following him. How many people are there here?
"Woah, this is him? He looks so cute!" The boy coos at me, causing me to whine. Who does he think he is, thinking he could call me cute? I'm not cute. Bummie used to call me cute, but I would always hit him for it.
"What did Tae say? I saw him leave a little bit ago. It worried me so I decided to check up on you."
Mark sits down next to me on the bed while the new boy sits cross legged in front of me on the floor.
"Uh, well," my voice comes out like a whisper. I clear my throat a bit. "He says I have to stay here. He doesn't trust me completely. I don't mind, though. I understand why."
The mysterious boy's eyes widen, "So, you know we're in a gang?"
"Renjun! Don't blurt out stuff that could get you in trouble!" He turns to me. "Did Taeyong mention that part?" I nod in response which earned me two sighs from the boys.
"I'm Renjun, by the way. Mark is rude and doesn't have manners to introduce me. He also didn't tell me what you're doing here. What's your story?"
My eyes widen and the anxiety creeps back up. I shouldn't tell them. Not yet, at least. I know they aren't going to hurt me, and I know they're not in contact with the lab, but I still feel like a small child facing a big fear.
Thankfully, Mark saves me from responding. "He doesn't have to say right now. He's scared. We shouldn't push him, okay?"
Renjun nods in dismay. "When you're ready, we should introduce you to everyone else. They're dying to meet you! Mark didn't want me to meet you at first, but he can't resist my sad eyes. I'm his favorite out of the younger kids here."
I notice Mark reach his leg out before kicking Renjun in the knee. Renjun's face portrays a look of hurt, but it's clearly fake. The scene causes me to giggle. I think I'll like it here.
