A poem for Simon Armitage- The British Poet Laureate

"Stick that up on your walk, Mister!"
He jokes.
Leaving his should destroying past behind.
Making sure his heart doesn't blister.

Hiding his fears within;
Going for it on the outside.
Showing what he is...
A man with courage that isn't thin.

He sits and laughs every time he utters those words.
He is the best.
Finally not the worst.

The bottom of the class to the best in the country.
Oh, how he has grown to represent our community.
