josh was still thinking of robert on friday, three days after the interaction in the bathrooms. something was off with him. josh couldn't quite place a finger on what and why, but he was certain there was something. maybe it was the fact that he had commented on the sound of josh's tears, or the fact that he had actually replied to josh and had a small conversation with him. be it whatever, it was nagging at the back of josh's brain all the time, 24/7, and it was getting annoying to him.

"joshua, it's time to go," josh's stepmom called from downstairs.

reluctantly, josh got up from his bed and grabbed his phone and wallet heading downstairs. he passed his stepbrother jordan in the stairs, and was careful to not look at the boy.

"hurry up, now. we can't be late," josh's stepmom, laura, spoke, now standing in the doorway with the door open.

josh sighed and called for his dog jim, attached his leash and walked out the door and to the car. he waited for laura to unlock the vehicle and then got in the backseat, wanting to avoid awkward eyecontact. he patted the seat next to him and waited for jim to get in before closing the door.

"so, has it been of any use?" laura questioned as the car got stuck in a red light.

"no," josh simply said, keeping his eyes locked on the view outside.

laura didn't reply, and the rest of the drive was spent in silence.

"we're here now," laura announced after the car came to a stop. "i'll pick you up after. or your father will, depends."

josh did not bother answering, it wasn't a question. he opened the door, stepped out and then let jim get out before slamming the door shut and walking towards the building he was dropped off at. he had been here before. thrice. and those three times were three times too much.

"c'mon jim, let's get this over with."
