I fell down on my bed tired and hopeless. I stared at the ceiling of my bedroom, carefully tracing the ends of the shadows from the skyscrapers that stood outside my window with my eyes. I did it for quite awhile. It was exactly 11:33pm at night and I couldn't sleep. This isn't normal. I'm usually asleep by 10, the latest being 10:30. My sleep schedule hasn't really been the best lately.
I adjusted my body so that my head was hanging off the bed so that I could look directly out the window. I just laid there and gazed intensely, noticing buildings I never paid any attention to before.
I did that for what felt like minutes until my phone flashed.
I sat up in my bed and reached for my phone which was up beside my pillow and read my notification.
Lauren 😚🥰: Are fyoucc st homev?
I re-read the text a few times before replying. I didn't understand what she was asking or if it was Lauren texting at all. I decided to believe that maybe here phone got stolen although I knew that wasn't the case.
Me: ???
Lauren😚🥰: Are 🧟♂️ you at bhome?
Me: Yes, why? What's the matter?
Lauren😚🥰: mmkay. I'll be 10.
Me
ok...?I kinda understood what she was saying, but I didn't understand why she was texting like that. Was she drunk? Is she drunk? Please don't tell me she's high. Please don't let her be neither. Ugh, I don't know what to think. I just hope she's not driving.
It didn't take long until she knocked hard on my door; 7 minutes.
The knocking made me jump in surprise at first. She's never knocked so violently. It was three hard, solid knocks before I could hear her hand slide down the door. What the hell?
I sat my phone on the bed and pulled my spandex shorts down my thighs-like they could really go any further while walking to the door. I opened the door and there she was, leaning against the doorframe. She had on vintage sunglasses and she smelt like a cheap sports bar.
"Heeeey sexy," She slurred out seductively before biting her lip and eyeing me from head to toe and toe to head.
"Hi, Lauren. Where have you been all night?" I asked motherly with one hand on the door knob and the other placed upon my hip. I wasn't feeling this side of her because it's not who she is. She doesn't drink-well not like this. She doesn't really drink at all as a matter of fact.
She looks like a tragedy and I don't like it at all.
"Does all of that even really matter?" She hiccuped. She looked so exhausted and so...wasted.
I just stared at her. I automatically started thinking she got drunk to drown her thoughts and feelings about everything that's been going on. I felt sorry because I felt as though she did this because of me.
"What?" She frowned. "You gonna let me in or what?"
Rudely, she pushed past me and stumbled lazily into the apartment. I didn't complain. I didn't fuss. I just sighed deeply and closed the door.
Her keys fell out her hands onto the floor and her phone was barely in her back pocket. I picked up her keys and took her phone out her back pocket and she fell back on the couch and sat it on the coffee table in front of her.
